Primary Responsibilities
Safely and effectively managing a 6:1:1 specialized classroom
Engage students in activities that are interesting, meaningful and individualized to reflect each student's developmental level
Effectively incorporating support staff into the classroom program
Develop Individualized Education Plans ("IEPs") in accordance with current New York State Education and Gateway practice, procedures and policies
Fulfill other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
New York State Certification in Early Childhood Education (B-2) and as a condition of future employment must be working toward, or be willing to pursue, appropriate Special Education certification in appropriate grade levels
Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, compassion, patience, and active listening
Ability to effectively work with individuals from a diverse array of cultural backgrounds, beliefs, customs, and lifestyles
Ability to physically restrain if required
Preferred Qualifications
- New York State Certification in Special Education (B-2)
