AltaGas - Lead Specialist, Operational Internal Audit
The successful candidate for this position will be joining a dynamic and collaborative internal audit team and will be responsible for performing complex level operational, financial, corporate, and/or IT auditing work with a focus on operations. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Internal Audit, this individual will lead or perform audit projects and advisory services, provide consulting services to the organization’s management and staff, provide input to the development of the annual audit plan, and provide training to other internal audit staff where appropriate and requires a comprehensive understanding of business risks. This role also includes the development and continuous improvement of audit programs, audit processes, and procedures to support maturing the overall audit function.
You Will:
Perform audits primarily related to operations, but may also perform audits in the areas of finance, corporate and/or IT and associated compliance
Rigorously research and plan audit areas in an efficient and timely manner
Document and execute audit procedures, including identifying and defining risks and issues, developing risk-based criteria, reviewing and analyzing evidence, documenting client processes and procedures, and following up on audit observations quarterly after the audit has been completed
Perform interviews, review documents, develop and administer surveys, compose summary memos, and prepare working papers
Identify, develop, and document audit issues and recommendations using independent judgment concerning areas being reviewed
Assist in communicating the results of audit and consulting projects via written reports and oral presentations to management and the board of directors
Develop and maintain productive client and staff relationships through individual contacts and group meetings
Gain cooperation and agreement on matters of shared interest and influence parties on policies and approaches
Represent Internal Audit on organizational project teams, at management meetings, and with external organizations. This may involve being part of an operational-related working committee as a representative of Internal Audit
Work collaboratively with management to identify required actions needed
Identify and evaluate the organization’s operational risk areas and provide input to the development of the annual audit plan
Perform related work as assigned by the Internal Audit leadership team
Pursue professional development opportunities, including external and internal training and professional association memberships, and share information gained with co-workers
You Have:
7+ Years of related experience in the industry required
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
Certification such as a CIA and experience in leading and conducting audits in operational, financial, corporate, and/or IT areas pertinent to the industry is considered an asset
Knowledge of energy industry program policies, procedures, regulations, and laws
Managed medium to large engagements with limited oversight from IA leadership
Skill in collecting and analyzing complex data, evaluating information and systems, and drawing logical conclusions. Ability to negotiate issues and resolve problems
Ability to apply internal auditing and accounting principles and practices, management principles, and preferred business practices
Skill in conducting quality control reviews of audit work products
Knowledge of management information systems terminology, concepts, and practices
Planning and project management, and maintaining composure under pressure while meeting multiple deadlines
A general understanding of the Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing and the Code of Ethics developed by the Institute of Internal Auditors is an asset
Class 5 Driver's License with the ability to travel up to 20% (domestic and international)
