POSITION OVERVIEW:

Startec Refrigeration Service is currently recruiting an Industrial Refrigeration Engineer to work remotely from within Canada. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, The Industrial Refrigeration Engineer ensures that Startec satisfies its’ customers’ needs in an efficient and professional manner.  This role provides engineering and technical support to the Service department, sales and directly to customers and acts as a liaison between the Service and the engineering group in the compression and process division.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):

SYSTEM DESIGN & ENGINEERING (Weighting 40%) Technical Documentation

  • Develop PID drawings, piping drawings, General arrangement drawings, layout drawings, vessel drawings, bridle drawings, etc.

  • Preparation of project documentation including operating/control descriptions.

  • Responsible for refrigeration system design including:

  • Working with clients and owners to define design requirements for each system.

  • Complete heat load calculations to size systems.

  • Develop conceptual refrigeration system designs.

  • Size and select major equipment including vessels, compressors, evaporators, valves, pumps, chillers, etc.

  • Piping design includes sizing, pipe layout, and selection of appropriate piping materials and fabrication methods.

  • Coordinate design of control systems, supporting electrical infrastructure, and ammonia detection systems.

  • Design and analyze HVAC systems for refrigeration machine rooms.

    Collaboration, Industry Knowledge, and Development

  • Work with internal or external piping designers to develop 3D models of the refrigeration systems and piping.

  • Keeping ahead of developments in the refrigeration industry by reading relevant journals, and attending specialized training, industry conferences, and courses as required.

    PROJECT MANAGEMENT (Weighting 30%) Engineering Support

  • Provide engineering support to Service, Sales, and Project groups as required.

  • Work directly with the Director of Engineering in the design and execution of projects (big and small).

  • Responsible for responding to bid technical clarifications during the sales cycle.

    Project Coordination

  • Work with owners, consultants, general contractors, and clients to coordinate the design of buildings and other supporting infrastructure with refrigeration system design.

  • Develop project bill of materials and approve all project drawings.

    TRAINING, SUPPORT & DEVELOPMENT (Weighting 30%) Quality Assurance

  • Support the service group with commissioning and field issues.

  • Resolve issues, provide direction, and conduct quality assurance checks on project deliverables.

Training & Development

  • Assist with training and mentoring engineers in training.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • P.Eng, or PE. designation with a minimum three to five years’ experience in industrial refrigeration applications (Ammonia and CO2 refrigeration systems).

  • Good knowledge of ASME/ANSI/codes, knowledge of CSA B-52 or IIAR codes an asset

  • Microsoft Windows operating systems; Microsoft Office Suite (Excel), engineering design and drawing software.

  • Knowledge and experience using AutoCAD to develop PIDs, layout drawings, etc.

  • Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Ability to communicate, influence, negotiate and resolve conflict

  • Capable of working with minimal direct supervision.

  • Capable of working remotely (if not located in Calgary.)

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Effective time management skills and can take responsibility / accountability for several large complex projects at once.

  • Fabrication or construction experience will be an asset.
