U.S. Coast Guard Administrative Support Assistant, GS-0303-06 in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina

Summary This position is located in Department of Homeland Security/U.S. Coast Guard, Special Missions Training Center in Camp Lejeune, NC. Responsibilities The position provides secretarial and office management support for the Commanding Officer, who assists in directing administrative and support operations. Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Typical work assignments include Performs a variety of administrative and support type duties in such areas as administration, security, travel, training, files management, property accountability, and reports. Accurately and promptly transmits and receives documents and messages electronically using computer workstations. Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates the accomplishments of various office administrative functions, such as records management, reports control, forms control, and administrative standing operating procedures. Evaluates effectiveness of procedures as they affect submission of reports, checking with operating personnel to establish information, revising mission and function statements and preparation and maintenance of related documentation. Serves as point of contact for organizational time keeping matters; advises supervisory/ management personnel of proper procedures for a given situation. Maintains current regulations on time keeping matters. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship is required. This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI). Applicants must be able to type 40 words per minute Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service. A one-year probationary period may be required. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. This includes Time-In-Grade requirements for current status employees applying through merit promotion procedures. Status applicants applying for a promotion must have 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade. Qualifications To Qualify for the GS-6 Grade Level: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in the federal service. Specialize experience includes progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Specialize experience include: suggesting and drafting new or revised clerical administrative support processes and procedures; maintaining files and records; assisting in the management of ongoing clerical and administrative support; drafting correspondence and reports; identifying workflow problems; providing assistance and direction to administrative support staff and lower organizational level. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
