U.S. Marine Corps INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST (NETWORK SERVICES) in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina

Responsibilities You will schedule and facilitate large scale video conferencing system to include digital coders/decoders, peripheral computers and associated computer-driven video. You will ensure that Video Teleconferencing system hardware is configured and operated according to local, service and Department of Defense (DOD) specifications and policies. You will utilize appropriate guidelines and preventive maintenance technology to resolve equipment problems and network configuration issues as needed. You will identify and correct operational problems involving a variety of hardware/software, Video Teleconferencing operating systems, and interrelationships between audio visual display systems. You will ensure performance of preventive maintenance procedures, which includes but is not limited to, running diagnostic, reliability tests, periodic cleaning of devices and adjusting settings or controls. You will analyze and test the networks connected to VTC infrastructure and VTC endpoints to ensure they are operational. You will ensure all facilitators are adequately trained and qualified in accordance with directives and policies as applicable. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications I have one year of information technology related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined: 1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: I am able to review data from multiple sources and determine relevant information to a given situation. I draft, edit and disseminate written reports and status updates that are factual, timely and relatively error free. 2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: I develop and maintain relationships with customers with diverse needs. I provide technical information about products and services. I assess the needs of customers and identify or tailor products and/or services to meet their needs. I resolve non-routine problems, questions, or complaints and direct the most complex problems, questions, or complaints to the appropriate person. 3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: I communicate, explain, or defend ideas or information clearly. I listen to others and recognize potential miscommunications. 4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: I use logic to identify alternatives to solve problems. I identify and solve problems by gathering and applying information from a variety of materials or sources that provide several alternatives. In addition to my experience demonstrating the four competencies above, I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: Developing, implementing, evaluating and improving processes and procedures for customer support; managing operations, maintenance and modernization of information networks (i.e. Voice, Video, Data services, Video Teleconferencing and/or Land Mobile Radio); and identifying and recommending solutions on network issues to upper management. Education Additional Information This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled.
