POSITION SUMMARY:

This position will be the primary safety resource for an operations area team.  The Safety Professional is responsible for a wide range of safety activities including program development and interpretation, conducting safety training, auditing and corrective actions, and participation on the refinery Emergency Response Team. The candidate should be familiar with OSHA standards and OSHA recordkeeping and have some experience in safety auditing, incident investigation, and emergency response. This position reports to the refinery Safety Supervisor.

This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency and skill level. Actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides support as the point of contact person for an operations area team on all safety issues. 

  • Supports the refinery emergency response efforts as part of the Incident Command structure, and participates as a member of the refinery Emergency Response Team.

  • Supports the refinery as a technical resource for safety issues including interpretation of standards and regulations, accident/incident investigations, and maintenance turnaround support. Rotational weekend duty required .

  • Develops, coordinates, and presents various safety training courses to refinery personnel.

  • Continuously assess safety risks within the area, develop and execute mitigation plans to address risks.

  • Engage in project related work by participating in the review and approval of plan development, Management of Change reviews and project safety plans.

  • Conduct Contractor Field Performance Audits and meet with contractors to communicate safety expectations and help them meet the Company expectations.

  • Review work permits, correct deficiencies and identify improvement opportunities.

  • Provide safety related input in the development and review of operating procedures.

  • Serve as an advocate for front line employees to help them safely complete work.

  • Ensuring OSHA regulatory compliance.

  • Interaction with refinery personnel to ensure safety procedures and regulations are followed.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED is required with 4 years of relevant experience preferred . (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety , Safety Management or Industrial Hygiene with 2 years of relevant experience is strongly preferred.

  • Must be familiar with OSHA standards.

  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products.

  • A valid driver’s license is required .
