Job Description
The Department of Education at West Texas A&M University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Instructional Design and Technology (IDT) for the Fall of 2025. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to teach engaging and relevant online courses in the graduate-level IDT program while also serving as the program’s director. The successful applicant must have expertise in innovative instructional design, proven success in graduate program recruitment, and a vision for developing and maintaining a high-quality graduate-level online program.
Work Performed:
This is a full-time, 9-month tenure-track faculty position. The teaching load will consist of teaching graduate-level online courses in the Instructional Design and Technology program. Other responsibilities will include advising students in the program, serving as the program chair, maintaining an active research agenda resulting in peer-reviewed publications, participating in departmental, college, and university service, and other duties as assigned.
Necessary Qualifications:
Earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. in instructional design, instructional technology, or educational technology.
Demonstrated ability to teach online graduate-level courses in instructional design, instructional technology, or educational technology.
Successful background in instructional design, curriculum development, and educational technology implementation in academic (elementary, secondary, and/or post-secondary), business/industry/corporate, and/or governmental and non-profit settings.
Evidence of scholarly productivity, such as peer-reviewed journal articles, conference presentations, or book chapters in the field of instructional design.
Proficiency in design tools and knowledge of instructional design software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Adobe Certified Professional, Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, etc.), learning management systems (LMS), and multimedia development tools.
Progressive-minded leader who exhibits strong oral and written communication skills for teaching, mentoring, and leadership roles.
Industry-recognized certifications in instructional design or educational technology (e.g., Certified Instructional Designer, Adobe Certified Professional, Microsoft Office Specialist Master Certification, etc.)
Evidence of continued engagement in professional learning or associations like AECT (Association for Educational Communications and Technology) or ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education)
Preferred Qualifications:
Forward thinker and change innovator who demonstrates experience with a variety of online/virtual teaching strategies, foundationally supported by specialized knowledge in instructional design principles, adult learning theories, technology integration, e-learning development, and knowledge and interest in generative and predictive A.I.
Visionary leadership experience in managing academic programs, curriculum development, strategic planning and program assessment.
Ability to effectively collaborate with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds to embrace and lead change.
