Summary:

The System Vice President, Capacity Creation & Management is a strategic leadership role responsible for optimizing and expanding capacity across the UNC Health system. This multifaceted role requires a deep understanding of healthcare operations, the evolving healthcare landscape, change leadership, and process improvement methodologies. The System VP will partner with key stakeholders, including entity CEOs and COOs, UNC Physicians, operational leaders and leaders in finance, strategy, and quality to develop and implement system-wide capacity strategies that enhance patient access, experience, and throughput; improve

operational efficiency; and support the system's growth objectives.

Responsibilities:

Capacity Assessment & Strategic Planning : Conducts comprehensive assessments of current system capacity, including inpatient bed availability, outpatient access, ancillary services, surgical/procedural suite utilization; service delivery locations; and post-acute utilization. Develops and implements system-wide capacity creation and management strategies aligned with population trends and system needs and strategic goals. Works to streamline system throughput and transitions between venues of care.

Change Management & Implementation : Leads and influences change across the system to optimize capacity utilization and patient flow/throughput. Partners with operational leaders to implement new capacity solutions, including physical expansion, process improvements, and alternative care models. Drives adoption of best practices and ensures accountability for results.

Unified Front Door & Access Optimization : Collaborates with UNC Physicians and other stakeholders to support the implementation of the "Unified Front Door" strategy, streamlining patient access and referral processes across the system. Focuses on optimizing patient flow and reducing bottlenecks.

Post-Acute Care Optimization : Collaborates with System Post Acute leader to develop and implement strategies to effectively utilize post-acute care resources, including skilled nursing facilities, rehabilitation centers, and home health services. Works to reduce length of stay and improve patient transitions.

Data Analysis & Performance Improvement : Utilizes data analytics to monitor capacity utilization, identify areas for improvement, and track the effectiveness of capacity initiatives. Collaborates with system, facility, and quality leaders to ensure capacity solutions support high-quality patient care and improve patient experience. Ensures capacity improvement strategies are aligned with organizational growth strategy and population shifts/needs of communities.

Financial Stewardship : Works closely with finance leaders to develop and manage capital and operating budgets related to capacity creation and management. Ensures that capacity investments are financially sound and aligned with the system's financial goals.

Collaboration & Partnership : Builds strong collaborative relationships and serves as strategic thought partner with key stakeholders across the system, including entity CEOs and COOs, UNC Physicians, operational leaders and other leaders across the organization. Effectively communicates capacity strategies and initiatives to all stakeholders.

Leading People : Leads people toward meeting the organization's vision, mission, and goals. Licensure/Certification Requirements:

● No licensure required.

Professional Experience Requirements:

● Requires a minimum of twelve (12) years of hospital operations experience, with at least ten (10) years of management experience.

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:

● Demonstrated experience in leading and implementing system-wide change initiatives.

● Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use data to drive decision-making.

● Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

● Proven ability to build strong collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders.

● Deep understanding of healthcare operations, capacity management, and post-acute care.

● Experience with process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) is highly desirable.
