Actalent Medical Laboratory Technologist / Scientist / Technician in Charleston, South Carolina

Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technologist / Scientist / TechnicianJob Description

This role's primary function is to ultimately provide information for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease by conducting medical laboratory tests, procedures, experiments, and analyses.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare cultures of tissue samples

  • Establish and monitor programs that ensure data accuracy

  • Microscopically examine slides of bodily fluids

  • Cross-match blood for transfusions

  • Chemically analyze blood or urine for toxic components

  • Operate and calibrate equipment

  • Deliver test results to physicians, researchers, or patients

  • Collect and study blood samples to determine morphology

  • Determine normal and abnormal components of body fluids by conducting chemical analyses of samples

  • Analyze cells by counting and identifying cells, using microscopic techniques and procedures

  • Prepare plasma and platelets for transfusions by conducting blood group, type, and compatibility tests

  • Ensure operation of analyzers, spectrophotometers, colorimeters, flame photometers, and other laboratory equipment by calibrating, completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques

  • Maintain laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for supplies, and verifying receipt of supplies

  • Conserve laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results

  • Provide medical technology information by answering questions and requests

  • Prepare reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information

Essential Skills

  • 1-2+ years of Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) experience

  • ASCP Certification

  • Ability to think critically and communicate effectively

  • Comfortable navigating on a computer with good typing skills

  • License or certification required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, clinical lab sciences, chemistry, surgical sciences, or life science field

  • Previous Med Tech experience or strong undergraduate intern experience

  • Good interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills

  • Ability to work independently

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload with minimal direction

  • Ability to multitask

  • Work effectively in a fast-paced environment

  • Attention to detail is essential

  • Clinical laboratory and sample processing experience

  • Positive attitude and passionate commitment to exceeding customer expectations

  • Flexible and adaptive

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous hospital experience preferred

Work Environment

The work environment is lab-based and provides opportunities to contribute to groundbreaking research, education, and patient care within a culture that prioritizes collaboration, compassion, innovation, integrity, and respect. The role is based in Charleston, South Carolina. Available shifts include: 10:30 AM - 7:00 PM, 12:00 PM - 8:30 AM, 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM, 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM, 9:00 AM - 7:30 PM. Second differential pay of $2.30 extra per hour and night shift differential of $3.75 extra per hour are available. All positions can be filled with a 4-year degree (MLS/MLT) or a 2-year Medical Lab Technician degree.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.03 - $36.00/hr.
