The Challenge

We are hiring an experienced Engineering Technician to join our Harrisburg Resident Engineering team in Charlotte, NC.

In this role, you will

  • Support senior technicians and engineers administering construction contracts by construction inspection and stakeout.
  • Serve as a lead project inspector on small- to intermediate-sized projects.
  • Perform standardized and non-standardized materials tests for acceptance in accordance with contract documents and incorporated specifications and requirements.
  • Assist in the supervision of junior technicians and contractors.
  • Help in the coordination of work assignments.
  • Write diaries and reports on project operations.
  • Complete material reports and document pay records.
  • Perform construction calculations and computer/iPad entry of reports/data.

What You Bring

  • Employee must be proficient in record keeping. Employee must be able to obtain and maintain certifications required to perform material sampling and testing. Work may include other duties and responsibilities as assigned. May be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as necessary and as operations require.
  • Experience with contract administration.
  • Knowledge in understanding contracts, plans, standards, and specifications.
  • Experience performing inspections, and materials sampling/testing (concrete, asphalt density) to ensure compliance with NCDOT specifications.
  • Computer skills using tablets/I-pads, desktop/laptop, software (HiCams and Share Point), record keeping, and data entry.
  • Strong math skills.
  • Working knowledge of pay record book entries and material received reports.
  • You apply a safety program to all operations.
  • Ability to work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards present on construction sites, including traffic, heights, weather extremes, and climbing rough/uneven terrain.
  • Communication skills to communicate in a clear, concise manner, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to make independent decisions using sound engineering judgment.
  • Experience with construction surveying and knowledge of surveying methods and procedures is preferred.
  • Fitness to perform moderate physical activity, such as walking, climbing, kneeling, and standing.
  • Strength to lift and carry 50+ pounds.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certifications required to perform material sampling and testing and inspection duties.
  • Able to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays when needed.
  • Safety toe shoes.

Education and Experience

  • Associates Degree in Civil Engineering, Survey Technology, or a related discipline, and
  • 2+ years of engineering technician experience, or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
