Job Title: Inside Machinist - Large Parts

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Inside Machinist with a minimum of two years of experience working inside a shop environment. The ideal candidate will be safety-oriented and familiar with numerical controlled processes, manual data input, tooling offsets, and conversation controllers. You will operate both manual and NC machines, including lathes, mills, horizontal & vertical machining centers, and EDMs. Proficiency with controllers such as Fanuc, Siemens, Acramatic, and Cincinnati-Milacron is essential. You must also be comfortable using precision measuring instruments, such as outside/inside micrometers, depth mics, and verniers. Experience with threading, drilling/tapping processes, and carbide machining is required. The ability to comprehend complex mechanical drawings and blueprints, along with strong math skills, is essential. A machinist or tool & die apprenticeship is preferred.

Job Type

This is a contract position with a duration of 2 Year(s) with opportunities for extensions.

TRAVELERS - Per diem duration and eligibility will be discussed prior to the interview process.

Work Site

This is a fully on-site position in Newport News, Virginia.

Work Environment

The work environment is a shipyard located in Southeast Virginia, which is very hot and muggy during the summer and cool during the winter. Work will be performed on a Navy vessel or in a shop environment. Candidates must be able to work any shift as the company runs a 24/7 operation.

Shift:

Must be open to all three shifts!

1st shift: 7am-3:30pm

2nd shift: 3:30-11pm

3rd shift: 11pm-7am

OT is often available / required - NOT guaranteed!

Recommended Skills:

Familiar with Numerical

REQUIRED Skills:

  • Experience with controllers such as:

  • Fanuc, Siemens, Acramatic, Cincinnati-Milacron, etc.

  • Familiar with the use of precision measuring instruments: outside/inside micrometers, depth mics, verniers, etc.

  • Familiar with threading and the various measuring/gauging requirements

  • Drilling/tapping processes

  • Familiar with carbide machining processes

  • Ability to comprehend complex mechanical drawings and blueprints

Must Also Have Several Years Experience with:

Horizontal Boring Mills, HBM’s that will have travel in the range of X - 500”, Y - 250”, Z - 50” and W - 65” they will also have turn tables that are about 10’ (foot) square with a load capacity of 100 tons.

Recap / Summary:

Machinists must be skilled in operating the different machines and tools used in a typical machine shop. They learn to read precision instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and indicators. The inside machine shop equipment includes lathes, drill presses, shapers, milling machines, grinding machines, boring mills, and portable tools used on a bench or floor area. The inside machinist is taught the basic principles of each machine and masters the techniques for cutting tools, adjustments, measurements, speeds, feeds and how to apply them in each process. In addition, the inside machinist will learn how to operate a computer

numerical control machine known as the CNC machine.

Pay/Compensation:

$37.50/hour

$120 per diem (5-7 days per week)

24 Months – Extensions available up to 2 years at a time

Local contractors can be brought on as permanent employees

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $37.50 - $37.50/hr.
