Siemens Energy Power Transformer Electrical Design Engineer in Charlotte, North Carolina

Join our team as an individual contributor, where you'll be at the forefront of preparing electrical designs for Power transformers. You'll drive design innovations and optimize end products, ensuring they meet Siemens Energy's design rules, quality standards, cost position, and time schedule. This role is based at our Siemens Energy Transformers Factory in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Perform Electrical Calculations for Power transformers and prepare Electrical design documents.

  • Design the parameters and dimensions of the active part of the transformer to meet customer specifications, including losses, impedances, noise levels, short circuit forces, temperature limits, and loading capabilities.

  • Understand customer specifications and project requirements, and prepare design review documents, technical reports, and justifications for customers.

  • Collaborate with departments like sales, mechanical design, manufacturing, quality, testing, and service on technical topics related to electrical design.

  • Prepare technical specifications for ordering components like tap changers, bushings, current transformers, winding conductors, and various accessories.

  • Estimate quantities for offers/tenders, prepare user documentation, and engage in technical discussions with customers at offer and order execution stages.

  • Work with other Siemens Energy transformer factories to enhance products further.

  • Communicate effectively among multi-functional teams and participate in various internal and external technical forums.

  • Support the development of global design rules and R&D efforts as needed.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s or higher in electrical engineering with 5+ years of experience as a design engineer in the field of Power Transformers, with expertise in transformer design software tools.

  • Strong conceptual knowledge and experience in calculations and designing of transformers.

  • Familiarity with American and international standards (e.g., IEEE, ANSI, IEC) related to transformers, components, and materials.

  • Proficiency in 2D CAD (e.g., AUTOCAD) software.

  • Experience in 2D/3D electromagnetic simulation and electrostatic analysis is a plus.

  • Detailed knowledge of materials and components like core grades, winding copper, winding assembly insulation parts, tap changers, bushings, transformer accessories, and sensors.

  • Knowledge of various types of core construction and winding types, and design of winding assembly insulation components.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English.

  • Self-motivated to produce high-quality results within allocated time, with limited supervision.

  • Experience working with global engineering teams in project execution.

  • Experience with SAP is preferred.
