Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking a dynamic leader and strategic thinker who thrives at the intersection of transit and urban planning. In this role, you’ll help grow Stantec’s presence in Charlotte and the broader Southeast region by supporting transportation and transit planning efforts while also integrating urban design and development expertise into projects such as transit-oriented communities (TOC) and transit-oriented development (TOD). This unique position offers the opportunity to become a local champion and connector, serving as a bridge between our Transportation business unit and Urban Places groups across the country.
Supporting our Multimodal Transportation Team in the Southeast region, the selected candidate will perform comprehensive planning, operations and potential design services for public transportation systems, market clientele and build client relations, and provide supervision and guidance to multimodal planning staff, assigning tasks, performing QC checks for accuracy and completeness, and maintaining project schedules. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in communication, with a background in transit planning, the ability to lead projects, manage within project scope and deliverables, provide compliant and technically sound strategies, manage, coach and mentor resources effectively, facilitate the stakeholder and engagement process, and effectively represent Stantec at client meetings and public events.
This position would also seek to grow and lead Urban Places projects, while working to expand Stantec’s Urban Places presence in the southeast region. This may include integrating urban planning and design into TOD/TOC projects. This may involve developing “placemaking” and urban design principles for development/redevelopment opportunities. Familiarity with the charrette-based planning process is preferred to help guide decision-making.
Your Key Responsibilities
Working collaboratively with Multimodal Planning Group and Urban Planning Group teammates
Lead transportation and transit planning projects, including Transit Development Plans , Short-Range Transit Plans , and mobility hub/intermodal facility planning .
Collaborate with Urban Places practitioners across the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Southeast to identify and pursue opportunities in urban planning and design.
Support and lead proposal development and marketing efforts related to both transportation and Urban Places projects, leveraging your dual expertise.
Help grow Stantec’s Urban Places presence in Charlotte and the Southeast through business development, client engagement, and strategic project leadership.
Act as a liaison between Stantec’s Multimodal Transportation Group and Urban Places practice , fostering collaboration on TOD/TOC projects and exploring opportunities for integrated solutions.
Provide mentorship, coaching, and technical oversight to project teams, ensuring high-quality deliverables and adherence to schedules.
Support the facilitation of public engagement processes, including charrette-based planning workshops, to guide decision-making on place-making and redevelopment initiatives.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Demonstrated dexterity in transportation and urban planning work , with experience managing projects at the intersection of these disciplines.
Strong oral and written communication skills, with a talent for client relationship building and stakeholder engagement.
Proven ability to develop and implement creative, context-sensitive solutions for complex challenges.
Highly organized, self-motivated, and adaptable, with experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Proficiency in tools such as Microsoft Office, ArcGIS, and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator preferred).
Knowledge of FTA funding and grant programs , with a track record of successful grant applications and project delivery.
Self-motivated and highly organized
Comprehensive approach to challenges and problem-solving

Strong research skills and open to feedback
Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation
Adaptive to new software programs and web platforms (continual learner)
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in transportation planning, urban planning or related field. Prefer AICP, GISP, or P.E. Certification. Minimum of 12 years of experience.
Familiarity with FTA funding and grant programs. Experienced in transit planning to include, but not limited to Transit Development Plans, Short-Range Transit plans, transit facilities/BRT, Mobility Hubs/intermodal facility planning, etc.

Travel Requirements
Some travel may be required, such as attending or facilitating public meetings, conferences, or project coordination meetings with agencies or clients. May visit study areas, construction sites and/or be exposed to outside elements and inclement weather conditions.
