The University of Chicago\'s Department of Pediatrics is searching for a Chief of the Section of Pediatric Infectious Diseases. The appointee will be appointed at the rank of associate or full professor. As a full-time faculty member, the appointee will contribute to patient care, medical education, and scholarship. The Section Chief will lead the Section of Infectious Diseases with the overarching goal of enhancing its academic and clinical excellence. Other duties include teaching and supervision of trainees and medical students, and scholarly activity. Academic rank and compensation (including a generous package of fringe benefits) are dependent upon qualifications.

A tradition of excellence in patient care, clinical and translational sciences, combined with the strengths of one of the world\'s top academic institutions provides the strong foundation for a career as an academic physician leader.

University of Chicago Medicine has been at the forefront of medical care since 1927. Located in historic Hyde Park, the primary medical campus includes the Center for Care and Discovery, Comer Children\'s Hospital, Bernard A. Mitchell Hospital for adult inpatient care, and the Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine (DCAM) totaling more than 550 beds. The Department of Pediatrics provides care across the region at over 10 inpatient and ambulatory sites.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a MD or equivalent, 2) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois, and 3) be Board certified in Pediatric Infectious Diseases.

We especially welcome applicants who are accomplished academic pediatricians with a record of scholarly accomplishment as a translational or clinical science researcher. We also welcome applicants who are committed to training the next generation of pediatric infectious diseases physicians. Additionally, we welcome physician-scientists, scientists, and those who will provide strategic leadership to a clinical program that spans the rapidly growing University of Chicago Medicine regional system. Appointees with demonstrated academic leadership and/or program building abilities at the institutional or national level preferred. The ability to build interdisciplinary programs will be particularly helpful given the highly collaborative nature of the University of Chicago academic community.
