Job Summary
Reporting to a Director, Project Management, the Project Manager CPD is responsible for managing or assisting in managing assigned projects in their specific category or type.
Technical, Research, and Laboratory Projects - Design and construction of space, and/or buildings whose primary function is to support laboratory, research, or specialized functions of a technical or specialized nature requiring complex and sophisticated support systems, finishes, or other conditions.
Small Scale Projects - Design and construction of small, relatively simple, projects triggered by a change in function of existing space, refurbishment of worn out space, or projects for which the scope is limited in cost, area, or complexity. Projects tend to incorporate a room, suite of rooms, or building type of relatively simple parameters.
General and Large Scale Projects - Design and construction of space and/or buildings which could be described as \'general institutional or business use; in that it is not of a functional type requiring specialized systems, processes, or construction systems. Space types might include among others, classrooms and meeting rooms, offices, residential, recreational, lounges, food service, etc. Projects tend to be larger, whole floor or building renovations or additions.
Programming and Preliminary Design Projects - Feasibility studies, programming studies, space allocation and assessment, and preliminary conceptual design and planning. Project assignments tend to be \'up front\' \'upon inception\' explorations and investigations necessary to clarify and define the exact nature of a proposed space need or project. Projects include evaluations of quantity and quality of space needed for new, expanding, or changing programs.
Infrastructure Projects - Design and construction of projects whose scope is primarily related to mechanical, electrical, plumbing, \'HVAC\', building automation, utility systems, or any other infrastructure-related component.
Responsibilities
- Manages and coordinates all aspects of projects from inception through completion and transfer to Operations and Management by using the standard project management process.
- Assures budget, schedule, scope, standards, and qualities are within requirements.
- Conducts fact-finding exercise to assure sound decisions are made relative to first cost versus life cycle costs.
- Develops and maintains strong relationships with others in Facilities Services to meet the mission of Facilities Services and the objectives of project management.
- Conducts regular communications with internal and external customers and stakeholders ensuring understanding of the project management process.
- Oversees timely completion of the project including close-out procedures, archiving, customer move-in, etc.
- Maintains Facilities Services philosophies by fostering a spirit of teamwork and cooperation.
- Works with minimal guidance to manage project planning process, including facilitating and performing value engineering, soliciting or preparing construction cost estimates, and coordinating selection of vendors and contractors. Assists in developing the master project schedule, defining the roles and responsibilities for the whole project team.
- Guides the design and construction of spaces and buildings. Establishes and reviews project documentation, prepares monthly progress reports, and negotiates additional services and contractors change order requests.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Education:
- Bachelor\'s degree or related degree in construction management, engineering or architecture.
Experience:
Planning, design, construction and project management related duties and activities, preferrably in higher education or related institutional facilities.
Project management, preferably in a hospital, research, or educational setting, or similar commercial or industrial facilities.
Background on projects involving specialized processes, procedure rooms, and complex mechanical, electrical, plumbing, (MEP) and heating, ventilating, air conditioning (HVAC) support systems.
