Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial Senior / Staff Product Engineer with a strong background in both web and backend development. The ideal candidate is highly product-minded and capable of making strategic decisions that drive product excellence. You will play a pivotal role in building robust software solutions while setting high engineering standards for the team.

XSELL is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. This role is open to remote work within the United States for those that are not based in the Chicagoland area. For Chicagoland area candidates, this role is hybrid. We encourage all qualified candidates to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Development: Design, develop, and maintain high-quality web and backend systems that meet product requirements.

  • Strategic Decision-Making: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to make informed product decisions that enhance user experience and business value.

  • Technical Leadership: Set engineering best practices and standards; lead by example to foster a culture of excellence.

  • Mentorship: Guide and mentor junior engineers to develop their technical and professional skills.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to align technical solutions with business goals.

  • Performance Optimization: Ensure the scalability, security, and performance of applications.

  • Innovation: Stay updated with emerging AI technologies and industry trends to drive continuous improvement.

    Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Experience: 7+ years of professional software development experience.

  • Technical Expertise:

  • Proficiency in Typescript, React / NextJs, Java.

  • Expertise in web technologies - experience developing full-stack solutions leveraging websockets, SSE, REST APIs, service workers, and more.

  • Strong backend development skills with experience in Java + Spring, Python.

  • Experience with databases and understanding of data modeling. Experience with Redis, Postgres, Snowflake, MongoDB are a plus.

  • Deep familiarity with AWS and deploying Dockerized stacks in Kubernetes.

  • Product Mindset: Proven ability to make strategic product decisions with a focus on user needs and business impact.

  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated experience in leading technical teams and mentoring engineers.

  • Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Agile Methodologies: Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
