Amentum Project Manager in China Lake, California

Mission Statement: The Conventional Prompt Strike Test Facility (CTF) contract supports the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWD), Weapons and Energetics Department in China Lake, CA.   • Seeking a dynamic leader and detailed-oriented project manager with a bias for action to drive a fast-paced and challenging, research and development effort in support of one of our nation’s top defense priorities at China Lake. This role requires planning, scheduling, tracking, and communicating the status of multiple simultaneous efforts that span multiple organizations, contractor and government. The one-of-a-kind test site is perpetually in a state of test execution, and planning and integration in preparation for the next test series. This role requires coordination, planning, and execution across multiple phases of testing simultaneously. Critical aspects of this role include schedule development and management, on-site coordination of resources, documentation review and development, and a basic technical understanding of site operations, hardware, and capabilities. The team is multi-organizational, and skills span from senior program managers to engineers, to on-site technicians, logistics, budget, and everything in-between. The environment is fast-paced and demands attention to detail while never losing site of the big picture.

Required Education and Experience:

Previous supervisory and/or management experience

Ability to work / collaborate across organizations and lead without organizational authority

Schedule management and development experience

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Previous experience with technical / engineering projects

Ability to manage many competing priorities simultaneously

Previous experience in project management

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

US Citizen, security clearance eligible

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

A successful candidate will effectively plan site operations focusing on present day operations to out 6+ months. This involves coordinating hardware, engineering documentation (procedures, drawings, etc.), and site operations to develop a schedule, identify / mitigate risks, and then drive execution of the plan. In an R&D testing environment, things often wrong, this role will need to identify issues, clarify the problems, communicate them, and work to develop solutions. This role requires strong judgement, effective communication skills, and an ability to respond to the unexpected. This role will work very closely with other program managers, engineers, documentation managers, logistics and procurement, and the customer to develop a plan, establish a schedule, track key items, drive completion of milestones, adjust to issues, and monitor and communicate status.

Essential Functions for Position

Physical Requirements: May include lifting of weight up to forty (40) pounds as necessary.

Work Environment: Can involve inside or outside work depending on the task. An inside environment may be a cubicle (considerations: close quarters, low to moderate noise, bright or dim lighting). Outside work may include various environmental conditions including warm and cold climates. Needs to be able to work well with co-workers and all levels of management. No hazards on job or unusual environmental conditions.

Equipment and Machines: Ability to operate office equipment such as a personal computer, printer, copy machine, telephone, fax machine and other equipment including desk supplies and other work-related tools as required. Possess heavy and light equipment licenses, or the ability to obtain the necessary licenses.

Attendance: Normal hours are Monday - Thursday between 7:00am to 5:00pm during flex weeks, 7:00am to 4:00pm on non-flex weeks. Punctuality and regular attendance are necessary to meet deadlines. Must exhibit flexibility of work hours to adjust to surge situations based on critical mission requirements. With the exception of STD/LTD/FMLA & approved time off, attendance is considered essential.

Other Essential Functions: Must demonstrate professional behavior at all times when dealing with customers, management, and co-workers. Must have clear, concise and accurate communications skills in English, both verbal and written. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk to employees or others. Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner. Independent personal transportation to office or work site is required. Travel (up to 20%) to and from customer locations and test locations (government and vendor) may be required to support projects. This may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can possibly be made for POV, if necessary. When operating any vehicle for work purposes, must wear seat belt and in addition, no cellular devices are to be used when vehicle is in motion.
