Job Overview The University of Cincinnati College of Law seeks to hire an outstanding individual to manage the day-to-day operations of the Urban Morgan Institute for Human Rights and the Human Rights Quarterly (HRQ). Founded in 1979, the Urban Morgan Institute was the first endowed institute at an American law school devoted to international human rights law and has long been a world leader in legal education and human rights scholarship. The Institute publishes the HRQ, the world's leading human rights academic journal, in conjunction with The Johns Hopkins University Press (JHUP). Essential Functions The Program Manager works closely with the Director of the Institute. Responsibilities pertaining to the Institute will include: Programming for events and conferences Facilitating the Distinguished Visitor Program Facilitating the Morgan Fellowship Program Coordinating summer internships (both abroad and U.S.-based) for Institute Fellows and HRQ Staff Interfacing with UC International Composing and transmitting letters of recommendation Communicating with current students, graduates, Institute partners, internal personnel, and the public Promoting the Institute through social media Drafting stories/press releases for the College's website and other fora Facilitating the preparation of grant applications Processing expenses and reimbursements Preparing annual budget for the Institute Managing annual budget for the Institute For the Quarterly, the Program Manager will among other things: Manage manuscript submissions and article production process through ScholarOne Journal Management System Correspond with authors Prepare articles for student editors to distribute to staff Oversee editorial process of student editors, ensuring production calendar deadlines are met Obtain and maintain publishing agreements and creative works permission forms Work with authors to ensure publication deadlines are met Annotate and approve page proofs Hire student workers Train student workers and staff Act as liaison with JHUP Required Education Bachelor's Degree. Seven (7) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement. Required Experience Three (3) years of relevant experience Additional Qualifications Considered May require supervision experience. Knowledge of human rights and social justice issues is desirable. Exceptional editing and organizational skills. Leadership, management, and team-building experience. Strong student support skills. Ability to work under deadlines. Responsive communication.
