Medical Health Physicist

A Medical Health Physicist administers the health physics activities of Radiation Safety and supports the safe medical and research use of radioactive material and ionizing radiation at Cleveland Clinic Health System facilities. Provides health physics support to the Radiation Safety Officer and Assistant Radiation Safety Officer.

A caregiver in this position works 7:00am-4:00pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Performs routine periodic audits of medical departments at CCF Main Campus, CCF Satellites, and other CCHS facilities.

  • Prepares written reports of the audit findings, performs necessary follow-up activities and develops necessary corrective actions.

  • Reviews the dosimetry records of all CCF departments.

  • Performs all necessary dosimetry follow-ups. Provides annotated dosimetry records for all CCF employees who are assigned a personal dosimeter.

  • Provides ALARA reports and review for the Radiation Safety Committee.

  • Keeps apprised of regulatory issues/changes and informs the RSO of the impact of changes on the Radiation Safety program.

  • Proposes necessary program changes or procedural changes.

  • Develops Radiation Safety procedures and assists in developing procedures involving radioactive materials or ionizing radiation in other departments.

  • Provides periodic routine training and annual re-training for individuals in medical and research departments who work with radioactive material or electronically produced radiation devices.

  • Develops training materials and the coordination of training sessions to ensure completion of compliance requirements.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in health physics, medical health physics, medical physics, industrial hygiene, physics, a physical science, engineering or in a biological science with a minor in physical science or engineering.

  • Master's degree in health physics or closely related field may be substituted for one year required experience.

  • Minimum five years full time professional experience in health physics.

  • Minimum three years must have been in applied health physics, preferably at a medical broad scope licensee, requiring professional level judgment and involving radiation safety.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • American Board of Radiology, American Board of Health Physics or American Board of Industrial Hygiene certified preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires extensive standing, walking, and driving to various locations on and off campus.

  • Requires physical senses, mobility and strength sufficient to operate PC computer and assorted field equipment, and handle items up to 50 pounds.
