Job Summary:
The Principal Applications Equipment Engineer’s role is a key member of the Markets Engineering Team. The Markets Engineering Team provides equipment engineering and best operating practices to the Markets Sales Team. This role creates industry leading innovative technology for customer related metals and chemical markets application equipment projects through use of engineering principles and intimate industry experience in the design, quoting, fabrication, procurement, commercialization and delivery of Metals and Chemical Application Equipment. Ensures that metals and chemical applications equipment meets safety and design standards and applicable codes. Provides technical expertise for Messer’s metals and chemical equipment capabilities and contributes toward efforts to sell application equipment and gases through the timely delivery of quotes and estimates. The success of the Metals and Chemicals Markets depend upon the successful execution of this role.

Principal Responsibilities:
Mentor and develop Applications and Sr. Applications Equipment Engineers and Designers, utilizing acquired technical knowledge, organizational knowledge, and experience.
Lead continuous improvement and standardization efforts of equipment designs.
Development of Functional Controls Specifications
Support of Development Team from new equipment designs through commercialization.
Improving equipment designs to meet market needs and/or improve cost and/or quality.
Establish and manage project budgets and scheduling for projects up to and exceeding $4,000,000.
Drive $12MM of incremental business revenue .
Perform role of Technical Expert to support projects, troubleshooting, HAZOPs, LOPAs, and Engineering Management of Change processes.
Perform role of HAZOP and/or risk assessment leader.
Lead development of training content and training efforts.
Industry standards and code expert, including NFPA 86 & 54, ANSI B31.3, CGA 4.
Responsible for development and continual improvement of Messer standards.
Responsible for accuracy of design calculations, drawings, specifications, bills of materials and manual creation and development for application equipment assignments.
Ensure proper safety considerations are always encompassed with each project.
Provide technical support to application equipment troubleshooting encountered at customer and fabrication sites.
Validate equipment functional quality and workmanship through functional testing and developing new test protocols as required.
Provide and manage timely quotes to Application Sales Engineers and Project Managers.
Complete close-out checklists for application equipment projects, including making sure all calculations are documented and filed to project folder, and as-built version of manuals are completed and distributed.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (Masters Preferred) in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science with minimum 10 years project management experience in a related industrial field.
A solid understanding of compressed gas fluid dynamics is required.
Ability to create P&ID’s.
Knowledge of valves, flow, pressure, and temperature instrumentation.
Ability to read and understand electrical schematics preferred.
