Stew Leonard's Wine Shop Assistant Manager in Clifton, New Jersey

Assistant Manager Wine Shop

Full Time Salary – $65,000.00 – $72,000.00

Depending on qualifications and experience

Position Description:

With limited to no supervision, the assistant manager is responsible for assisting with the overall operations, sales and profit goals of the Wine shop

Your day-to-day:

  • Ensure displays throughout the store are merchandised, seasonally appropriate and signage is accurate and displayed properly.

  • Ensure displays are full and product is rotated appropriately in all areas of the store – wine, beer and spirits.

  • Ensure prices are accurate with current sale and promotion

  • Place orders with vendors

  • Review sales and commodity reports to identify opportunities to achieve goals – ie. Looking at slow movers, proper category mix

  • Conduct periodic price surveys to ensure pricing remains competitive. Make recommendations for changes

  • Participate in monthly, quarterly and yearly department inventories ensuring appropriate turnover and less waste

  • Attend department BASH and Strategy meetings

  • Respond to industry trends by attending trade shows and one idea trips

  • Assist in hiring, promoting, and training team members

  • Provide timely feedback by completing and delivering comprehensive 45 day and mid-year Performance Chats

  • Provide feedback to department manager for Annual Performance Appraisals

  • Create schedules and enter them into HRIS system for team members to access at least 2 weeks in advance

  • Ensure team member time sheets are accurate for weekly payroll processing

  • Conduct and/or actively participate in monthly department communication meetings

  • Address disciplinary issues in a timely fashion

  • Ensure compliance with all employment laws

  • Ensure the department is in compliance with all health codes, sanitation and safety regulations

  • Ensure representation is present at all monthly Safety Committee Meetings

  • Conduct/oversee daily/periodic department cleaning

  • Assist in other duties, as assigned

    Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with 3 years’ experience

  • Safely operate pallet jack and all other equipment used in the day to day operation of the grocery department

  • Demonstrate safe usage of box cutters

  • Great customer service skills

  • Good computer skills and a basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and the HRIS, purchase order/transfer, and item maintenance systems

  • Good communications skills, both written and oral

  • Good organizational skills

  • The ability to delegate tasks and give clear directions

  • The ability to multi-task

    Working Conditions:

  • On occasion, may be required to work in the parking lot, with exposure to weather extremes

  • The position requires frequent walking, standing, lifting, reaching, pushing and pulling with a maximum of 50lbs.
