What we want

Texas A&M University’s College of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts (PVFA) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to conduct research that contributes to Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and 3D User Interface (3DUI). if you have a have a PhD in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Industrial Design, Information Science, or related field, with a strong publication record in top-tier HCI/3DUI venues, and are selected, you will be involved in one or more of the following research areas:

  • AI-powered adaptive user interfaces for AR/VR/XR applications

  • Novel interaction techniques for AR/VR/XR applications

  • Remote collaboration in immersive environments

  • Advancing high-fidelity AR/VR/XR prototyping through generative AI

  • Interactive art and performance with generative AI

    Responsibilities

Research

  • Conduct research detailed above

  • Analyze research data and summarize results. Write and contribute to new/existing research papers and grant proposals

Administrative

  • Assist with lab organization, protocol management, and communicates with vendors

  • Manage IRB protocol, purchase essential supplies, schedule lab meetings/events

  • Manage participant recruitment for user studies and safeguard confidentiality of subjects

  • Communicates with lab manager and other laboratory staff on a daily basis to ensure successful completion of laboratory research, compliance with protocols, and selection of best troubleshooting approaches

  • Produces written laboratory protocols and standard operating procedures as needed and keep them updated to ensure uniformity of lab work

Mentoring & Presentations

  • Assist, mentor, and/or supervise student researchers and/or graduate students

  • Prepares presentation materials on research topic that may be presented to small and/or large groups

  • Actively participates in the preparation of required technical progress reports

    Qualifications

Required Education & Experience:

  • PhD in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Industrial Design, Information Science, or related fields

  • Strong publication record in top-tier HCI/3DUI venues (IEEE VR, TVCG, ACM ISMAR, SIGGRAPH, CHI, UIST, CSCW, TOCHI)

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Solid knowledge and skills in Quantitative, Qualitative, and Mixed-Method Research and respective data analysis

  • Excellent verbal & written skills with excellent presentation skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work in collaborative, interdisciplinary environments

  • Demonstrated skills in programming in Unity (C#), C++, and Python

  • Experience developing AR/VR/XR applications

  • This position may be required to travel internationally

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with AI/ML and Computer Vision libraries

  • Experience with back-end development

  • Public speaking ability

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience

Position Details: All or a portion of this salary may be funded by grants and/or contracts; continued employment may be contingent upon availability of future funding.
