NiSource Emergency Management Intern in Columbus, Ohio

Job Title: Emergency Management Intern

Summary

The Emergency Management (EM) Intern will participate in building strong relationships with NiSource emergency response and local and state governmental officials and staff. The EM Intern will partner with NiSource Emergency Managers executing critical tasks in support of the programs key capability elements.

Key Results

  • Ensuring all preparedness plans adhere to federal, state, and local regulations

  • Assisting with the training throughout the organization for emergency management protocols

  • After Action Reviews, documentation and reporting out lessons learned or key actions

  • Work Continuity Program Support through incident command system roster management and program maintenance

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver support for the execution of the incident action plan during incidents

  • Support the department’s technology strategy for rollout to operational teams

  • Build and assure maintenance of relationship strategy and plan across our footprint (EMA, fire, police)

  • Track continuous improvements to the emergency operations plan and processes that are activated during an incident and collaborate with key stakeholders on such improvements to meet requirements

  • Conduct After Action Reviews (AAR) with key stakeholders after training, emergencies, and all ICS activation activities

  • Assist with the responsibility for the tracking and updating of employees assigned ICS and work continuity role

  • Documents internal and external lessons learned across the organization

  • Record Retention of all Incident Related documentation

  • May contribute to the annual publishing and distribution of the emergency preparedness and response plan

  • May participate and develop ICS related training activities

Required Qualifications for Position

  • Major in Emergency Management or related discipline.

  • Required GPA 3.0 and above.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

  • Excellent analytical abilities, including process analysis and development, problem-solving and root-cause analysis.

  • Authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship

  • Experience working independently

  • Strong verbal and written skills

  • Demonstrated problem analysis and solving

$17.20 - $27.80
