Pearson Manager Test Development in Columbus, Ohio
This position is a part of our Workforce Skills division, specifically within the GED Testing Service where you will play a pivotal role in providing leadership and support to our Assessment Service team. You will report to the Senior Director of Assessment Service and collaborate closely with the other assessment leaders in Project Management/Publishing, Psychometrics, and Products Research.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and guide the assessment team in content and assessment development.
Manage a team of content specialists, editors, contractors, and consultants to ensure successful design and content development.
Ensure timely delivery of quality assessment items and forms for each assessment cycle.
Work closely with the lead Project Manager and lead Psychometrician to meet publication targets for forms and formats within each assessment cycle.
Drive long-term content development, asset planning, and execution.
Act as the primary point of contact for cross-functional teams, vendors, and partners regarding project-level content development requirements.
Demonstrate a strong understanding of GED assessment standards and blueprints, ensuring assessment design aligns with foundational principles.
Apply knowledge of psychometric principles related to test construction, data review, and standard setting to inform development processes.
Ensure adherence to content and test development procedures necessary for implementing assessment solutions.
Participate in the development and delivery of review and committee meetings.
Foster positive and productive relationships with internal resources, vendors, project partners, and external customers.
Troubleshoot technical issues in item and test development and lead the team in proactive solutions.
Provide risk mitigation and contingency planning for content development.
Address scheduling and delivery challenges effectively.
Maintain detailed financial planning and management, including labor and financial forecasting.
Stay informed about best practices in the assessment industry and assess their applicability for GED assessments.
Continuously monitor current processes to identify opportunities for reducing roadblocks and accelerating the development of quality items.
Cultivate a supportive environment focused on individual learning, team development, and inclusion.
Fulfill operational requirements and meet development deadlines by scheduling and assigning tasks, while ensuring quality control and testing.
Manage short- and long-term goals for GED® tests and related products, including form selection/rotation, product refresh, and annual item development volumes.
Collaborate with teams responsible for communication with state customers and those producing professional development materials for teachers.
Assist the Senior Director in evaluating and responding to state procurements, such as RFPs and RFQs, to highlight alignment between requirements and GED assessment products.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher required
A minimum of ten years managing assessment programs & projects
Familiarity with authoring tools and systems (preference for experience with 2 or more authoring systems)
Strong customer focus-ability to communicate with key customer contacts when needed
Experience in budgeting and purchasing
At least five years of management experience; ability to develop people and teams for success
Proficiency in data analytics and metrics management
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
High attention to detail
Excellent communication, presentation, and public speaking abilities
Strong organizational, planning, and documentation skills
Ability to manage multiple projects at various stages simultaneously
Experience with responding to requests for proposals (RFPs)
Capability to effectively communicate complex processes across departments and throughout the organization

Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by the California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maryland, New York State, New York City, Washington State, and Washington DC laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:
The minimum full-time salary range is between $95,000 - $100,000.
