The State of New Hampshire, Department of Revenue, Legal Bureau, has a full-time vacancy for a Paralegal II.
Summary:
Performs paraprofessional complex legal research, reviewing and analyzing statutes, rules, and regulations for use in administrative agency appeals, assists in the preparation for and conduct of legal proceedings and interacts with department personnel, court officials, taxpayers and their advisors for the Department of Revenues Legal Unit.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Associate's degree or two years of college with a major study in law, paralegal studies or a related legal field, or a paralegal certificate from a certified paralegal program. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience: Three years of experience in legal research, legal investigative work, paralegal work, criminal justice, civil litigation, or an area which provided experience with legal terminology, with at least one year at the level of Paralegal I. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
Special Requirements: As a condition of employment to ensure suitability for exposure to confidential information all Department employees shall be subject to initial checks and periodic rechecks of their criminal background history, which may include an FBI background review, a state background review, and a check with local law enforcement agencies. The receipt of an unfavorable result may be grounds for disciplinary action up to and including dismissal.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Considerable knowledge in legal research techniques and terminology, including statutory history analysis, and investigative techniques and methods to determine the knowledge and credibility of people. Ability to develop evidentiary information for court presentation, perform tedious in-depth research, to address groups, communicate effectively in oral and written form, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the courts, attorneys, business owners and the public. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.
