Placing concrete includes spreading the ready mixed concrete that is being discharged from a concrete mixer with a shovel or come along tools to the height of the forms. Screeding concrete is the process of leveling out the concrete to the height of the forms that are set in place. A 2x4 or a magnesium board are used for this process. One employee holds each end of the board and drags the board over the surface until the concrete is even and level. The workers placing the concrete will fill in any low spots or knock down any high spots while the screeding is taking place. Setting forms is the process of placing wooden or steel forms in place to the elevation and alignment required for the concrete that will be placed inside the forms. The forms are aligned with the string line that has been set and then stakes are placed to hold the forms in place. Nails are placed through the stakes onto the forms to hold the forms at the proper elevation. Other tasks assigned include carrying forms and stakes and laying them out to get ready to be set into place, fine grading the subgrade with a shovel or come along, removing forms after the concrete has been placed and is set up, spraying curing compound onto the new concrete surface, and cleaning tools that have been used during the day.
