The Department of Journalism and Media Management at the University of Miami seeks an innovative and collaborative journalist to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels while leading our local news initiative, CommunityWire.Miami. This full-time faculty position requires teaching and service, is open rank and is not tenure eligible. The position begins August 15, 2025. It requires a Master’s degree and at least five years of experience in local journalism.
The ideal candidate would have experience building sustainable models of multiplatform, local journalism that accurately reflects complex problems, community-based solutions and South Florida’s rich cultural landscape. Active professional practice is encouraged but not required. Experience teaching at the university level is helpful.
Department faculty mentor nationally recognized student media organizations and a growing podcast initiative. Our local news initiative seeks to leverage the combined strength of our student media platforms, upper-level undergraduate classes and graduate student work through local and statewide partnerships.
