The University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies and Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center invite applications for tenured/tenure-track faculty positions, open rank. We are interested in candidates who wish to be part of a transformative collaborative initiative between the cancer center and nursing school and have research interests and expertise in cancer survivorship and population sciences. There is particular interest in candidates who are team scientists, highly collaborative, and have expertise in one or more of the following areas: cancer and aging, dissemination and implementation science, and AI/ML or big data analytics. These areas would complement existing and developing research programs in symptom and toxicities measurement and management; patient-reported outcomes (PROs); technology-supported behavioral and psychosocial interventions; biobehavioral mechanisms in cancer control; electronic health record (EHR), bioinformatics and value-based models of cancer survivorship care; health disparities in specific survivorship subgroups (e.g., LGBT; Hispanics; Elderly); cardiometabolic health in cancer survivors; epidemiological cohort studies; lifestyle medicine and translational science.
The School of Nursing and Health Studies and Sylvester, an NCI-designated cancer center, provide an excellent platform for research and education, including a diverse and broad scientific portfolio of cancer control, survivorship, and population sciences studies. These positions will be housed in the school of nursing, which is closely aligned with the cancer center’s mission and the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, led by nationally and internationally recognized leading experts in nursing and cancer control sciences. Within the cancer center, the candidates will be members of the Cancer Control Research Program, with rich opportunities for collaborative research within the program and with Sylvester’s Tumor Biology, Cancer Epigenetics and Translational and Clinical Oncology research programs. The candidate will have a primary appointment in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences with opportunities for relevant secondary appointments across multiple departments in the university aligned with the candidate’s interest and academic fit. SONHS ranks 11 in NIH funding to nursing schools.
SONHS facilities include over 53,000 square feet dedicated to high-tech classrooms, seminar rooms, and computer labs supporting research and education, a 1,225-square-foot Biobehavioral Laboratory equipped with state-of-the-art tools to perform molecular assessments (e.g., cell culture, DNA methylation, gene expression, protein quantification) and biospecimen storage. In addition, SONHS has a fully equipped and operational 5-story, 41,000-square-foot, cutting-edge Simulation Hospital, which replicates the true flow of activities in a clinical and hospital practice and is a global destination center for simulation-based education, research, and service.
Candidates should possess a PhD, MD, or other doctoral degree in a related behavioral science discipline, an outstanding record of scholarly publications, and a strong history and potential of extramural funding with exceptional promise in cancer survivorship, population sciences and nursing research. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and credentials. These are full-time, tenured, tenure-track, continuing positions. The start date is flexible.
