The American Heart Association has an opportunity for a Well-being and Health Equity in the Workforce Intern in our Healthy Living and NextGen Programs department. The American Heart Association is the leader at the intersection of physical health and mental well-being, focusing on chronic stress as the key association between cardiovascular health and mental well-being. ​The work of the Mental Well-being team is centered around the vision that all people, their families and communities​ live equitably in optimal physical health and mental well-being, able to cope with chronic stress. The Well-being and Health Equity in the Workforce Intern will support the research needs of the team in a variety of ways, described below.

The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.

Internship Overview:

  • Time Commitment: 25

  • Internship Duration: 1/21/25-5/2/25

  • Location: Remote

  • Salary: $23.00 per hour

Internship Outcomes:

Individuals participating in the internship program are provided with an opportunity to:

  • Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others.

Responsibilities

Tasks could include things like the following:

Reporting to the National Program Lead, Health Equity in the Workforce, our intern will support the implementation needs of the Workforce Well-being strategic plan including health equity in the workforce (HEIW) and mental well-being that will be completed by June 30, 2025:

  • Collaborates with team members to maintain the new Well-being Works Better website to enhance the user experience. This could include researching current trends and best practices workforce well-being, healthy equity in the workforce, and mental health and well-being.

  • Works with Business and Marketing/Communications teams to outline deliverables for webinars (i.e., generate webinar briefs) to support the Workforce Well-being and HEIW business plans.

  • Assists in managing projects including setting timelines and tracking progress.

  • Work with the Business Unit and Marketing & Communications to assist in developing marketing materials to promote the mental well-being initiative.

  • Assists in developing and organizing educational materials and resources based on the key strategic objectives of the Mental Well-being and Well-being Works Being Business plans.

  • Assists in maintaining and updating a library of mental well-being resources, including online materials.

  • Assists in collecting, managing, and analyzing data related to key initiatives (tracking key metrics.

Qualifications

  • Candidates who are college seniors, or graduate students in a program in public health, health promotion, psychology, social work, or a related field.

  • Basic understanding of mental health concepts, workplace well-being, and health equity.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities and strong attention to detail and follow through.

  • Problem solving and critical thinking.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.

  • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to work independently and professionally in a corporate environment and assume responsibility for completing projects from inception through results.

  • Required Equipment: Reliable WiFi Connection.

  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F within the 8:30am-5:00pm work day

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. As a remote position, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
