Geisinger Application Specialist II in Danville, Pennsylvania

Job Summary

The Application Specialist II will be responsible for assisting in the ongoing technology resilience assessment, risk minimization development, and implementation of measures to minimize risk to technology resilience, working with IT Resilience Program (ITRP) Staff. In addition, this position will work closely with the IT Incident Command (IT IC) Director to continue to develop the IT IC Program, provide training to the organization from a Major Incident Response perspective, and assimilate resilience strategies into the IT IC Role. Ideal candidates will have a good degree of knowledge and practical application relative to successfully managing mid to large scale incidents, preferably relative to technology degradations and disruptions. This position will work closely with other entities throughout the organization during organization-wide Emergency Management Stand-ups including but not limited to Organizational Emergency Management, Information Security Office (ISO), Organizational Security, and Clinical and Business Areas throughout the organization. This position will report directly to the Director of ITRP and IT Incident Command and act as their delegate when necessary.

Job Duties

  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of assigned and related application(s); P roficiency in navigating through the application and identifying integration points .

  • Demonstrates an understanding of the integration across modules and systems.

  • Evaluates proposed solutions, while considering downstream impacts, to gain efficiencies and implements the most appropriate solution.

  • Produces documentation including current and future state workflows, pros/cons, gap analysis, needs assessments, design specifications, build documentation, test plans, project plans, status reports and transitionary documentation.

  • Oversees testing including unit, scenario-based, integrated, capacity, and parallel testing.

  • Communicates effectively with peers, informaticians, stakeholders, project teams, and leadership. Provides regular updates regarding work status and demonstrates appropriate issue escalation. Applies conflict resolution skills to mitigate issues without escalation.

  • Demonstrates critical thinking and analysis skills to identify and evaluate wholistic solutions.

  • Completes system build and documentation in accordance with department guidelines and in adherence to change management policy.

  • Drives discussions to ensure participants are actively engaged and offering both feedback and input.

  • Understands the integration points within and across the various applications.

  • Provides feedback on training material and may conduct training classes in either virtual or in-person settings.

  • Adheres to best practices regarding information security.

  • Participates in team on-call rotation to provide 24x7x365 support to assigned areas.

  • Provides remote and/or on-site support as needed to end-users.

  • Supports system upgrades, patches, and monitoring.

  • Serves as accountable leader for assigned projects.

  • Participates in the planning and coordination of resources across initiatives.

  • Develops and precepts Application Analysts.

  • Develops department guidelines, standards, procedures, and policies.

  • Facilitates vendor review and selection processes.

  • Demonstrates understanding of the integration and technical requirements of peripherals and devices that interface with or integrate with assigned applications. Examples include laboratory instruments, radiology modalities, medication cabinets, printers, and scanners.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned by emergency or other operational reasons for which the employee is qualified to perform.

*Relevant experience may be a combination of related work experience and degree obtained (Associate’s Degree = 2 years; Bachelor’s Degree = 4 years).

Position Details

  • Demonstrates the ability to context switch based on the dynamic nature of responses to Major Incidents (Mis)

  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate across all levels of the organization form a crisis communication perspective

  • Must have the foresight to anticipate changes in Major Incidents and response strategies

  • Must be willing to deploy to MI Location

  • Demonstrate the ability to develop plans, procedures, guidelines and policy for responding to Major Incidents

  • Demonstrate the ability to coordinate resources (staffing, tools, etc.) to respond to a Major Incident

  • Demonstrate the ability to assess hazards before, during, and after Major Incidents

  • Demonstrate the ability to anticipate future Major Incidents and take preventive measures

  • Demonstrate the ability to Command, Control, and Coordinate Major Incidents on behalf of Geisinger and its constituents

  • Demonstrate the ability to prepare and present training materials relative to technology resilience and/or Major Incident Response

  • FEMA NIMS 800

  • Preferred but not required (must be completed within 18 months of hire):

  • DRI International – Associate Business Continuity Professional

Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)- (Required)

Experience

Minimum of 10 years-Relevant experience* (Required), Minimum of 1 year-Managing people, processes, or projects (Required)

Certification(s) and License(s)
