The Controls Engineer position oversees the development, execution and commissioning of new control system projects as well as supports existing control system projects. Responsibilities include automation controls systems design, PLC/HMI programming, troubleshooting, start up commissioning, and technical support. The Control Engineer also contributes to overall team performance by training/mentoring associates, providing technical assistance, and improving processes and standards.
Essential Duties:
50%-Control System Project Development and Technical Project Management
25%-Control System Project Commissioning
25%-Control System Project Support
Perform installation and commissioning of microgrid control systems
Develop control interface to energy resources (including power meters, protective relays, generator controllers, PV inverters, energy storage inverters, battery management systems, wind turbines, weather stations, etc.)
Develop, test, and deploy control algorithms
Conduct system functionality testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and reporting
Perform onsite investigation and troubleshooting, create reports and fault analysis
Create studies, reports, specifications, requirements, cost estimates, electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, and equipment layouts
Advise colleagues on technical specifications, requirements, and considerations for project proposals
Perform technical support for customers and colleagues
Oversight and direction of third-party contractors
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
0-3 years of experience with programming Industrial controls, PLC’s, HMI’s, and Industrial communication protocols
Preferred Qualifications:
Power generation experience (reciprocating engine and inverter based synchronizing, paralleling, and load-sharing, energy storage systems)
Communications protocols (Modbus, DNP3, CAN 2.0A/B, J1939 CANbus)
Programming languages (IEC 61131, Python, REST API)
Programming experience (SCADA and PLC)
Knowledge and understanding of electrical design codes (UL 508A, NEC, NEMA)
Ability and desire to travel internationally, including remote locations in third-world countries

Compensation: Generac is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role when based in Fort Collin, Colorado is $76,800.00 - $115,100.00 USD Annual. This compensation will ultimately be in line with the location in which the position is filled. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate’s relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location. This role is eligible for variable compensation including short- and long-term incentives.
Physical Demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 - 50 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
