Humana Associate Actuary in Des Moines, Iowa

The Associate Actuary, Analytics/Forecasting applies statistical/actuarial methods to advise senior leadership and other business stakeholders on matters of Medicare payments. Work involves developing deep subject matter around Medicare Advantage payments, with a focus on risk adjustment. The role examines public policy, including quantifying the impact of potential regulatory changes to support strategy around advocacy, bid development and financial planning. Applies statistical methods for modeling and comparison studies
The Associate Actuary, Analytics/Forecasting analyzes emerging trends on Medicare payment policy to quantify financial impacts, identify methodological concerns in external research. Supports strategic response to policy proposals through effective reporting to senior leadership, drafting comments and methodology critiques.
Analysis of MA Risk adjustment, including analyzing/forecasting trends in risk adjustment within MA industry and Traditional Medicare. Developing deep subject matter expertise in risk adjustment, leveraging Medicare data to support operations and strategic planning.
Statistical modeling is used to complete population-comparison studies, analyze trends, and estimate the effect of various interventions in health care delivery.
The role leverages SAS for statistical modeling and data manipulation. Creation of, and periodic update to, data sets. Managing reference documents related to risk adjustment
Begins to influence department’s strategy. Makes decisions on moderately complex to complex issues regarding technical approach for project components, and work is performed without direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in quantitative domain (e.g. mathematics, computer sciences, economics) or equivalent professional designation in mathematical/statistical domain (e.g. Associate of Society of Actuaries)
Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g. SAS, R, Python, SQL, VB, C++)
Proficiency in MS Excel
Minimum 4 years' experience with modeling, forecasting or other applied statistical methods
Strong communication/presentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
Medicare Advantage risk adjustment experience
Medicare bid pricing, consulting, or other Medicare-specific experience, including part D
Proficiency in SAS statistical software
Experience with MS PowerPoint
Experience with MS Power BI
Experience with data visualization
Business writing experience (e.g. drafting memoranda, whitepapers)
Experience with formal research and published studies

Pay Range
The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.
$106,900 - $147,000 per year
This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
