Job Description

This role offers a dynamic and rewarding work environment where your efforts will directly contribute to the upkeep and enhancement of our state facilities. Job Description:

  • Will operate a variety of mowers, weed whips, edger's and pruners to maintain landscaping and building aesthetics.

  • Operation of flatbed truck, tractor and end loader. Use equipment (forklift, vehicles, four-wheel tractors) to move materials, supplies and equipment. Service and make minor repairs on above equipment as well as electrical equipment (air compressors, etc.).

  • Will operate a variety of small hand and power tools (e.g., chain saw, electric drills, measuring and cutting devices, welding) to perform semi-skilled maintenance tasks. Keeps workplace clean and organized. Maintains equipment in good operating condition.

  • Remove and install signage and posts. Move office furniture and equipment. Operation of post hole diggers and electric drills.

  • Will assist in installation and removal of concrete and landscaping materials. Operation of jack hammer, skid loader, cement mixer.

  • Will maintain flower and garden beds including pruning, trimming, weeding, spraying and mulching as directed. Operation of pruners, weed whips and sprayers.

  • Will assist in set-up and clean-up of events. Maintain vehicle log, maintenance and damage reports.

  • Responds to emergency weather conditions. Will operate snowplow, small bulldozer, sanders and tractor for maintaining grounds and snow removal.

  • Cleans assigned facilities and/or grounds (e.g. cleans horizontal & vertical surfaces, kitchenettes, offices, stairwells, common area, restrooms, conference/training rooms, storage, elevators, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment. Uses many small hand tools and equipment such as brooms, dust mops, squeegees, fans, de­ humidifiers, vacuums, and extractors.

  • Input, receive, close, and manage work requests (verbally, phone, email, Work Order System) for prioritizing and delegation of work. Reaction time is based on urgency designation. Complete all requests as soon as possible with a goal of completing all requests within 24hrs. This includes all facilities on the State Capitol Complex and State laboratories facility.

  • Dust, clean, and polish furniture, hand railings, counters, wall hangings, shelving, window/door ledges and casings using various hand tools, rags and products.

  • Clean sinks, mirrors, porcelain, partitions and kitchenette/restroom fixtures using cleansers and sanitizing solutions brushes, cloths and squeegees. Replenish paper & plastic products.

  • Removes and disposes of various categories of waste

  • Makes minor repairs to tables, restroom fixtures, & custodial equipment. Replace lights. Makes safety & security checks and reports/documents findings. Transfers furniture, lamps, accessories and equipment to clear areas for cleaning and redecorating work by lifting light to medium.

  • Apply sand and ice melt to sidewalk and stairs. Removes snow, ice, sand, debris, etc. from steps, sidewalks and building area using shovels, brooms, blowers, shovel, power equipment as needed or assigned for the purpose of ensuring access and safety. objects.

  • Operational Need: Candidate may be directed to complete requests at other buildings on the complex during this time. Candidate will be required to work nights and weekends as snow events or other emergencies happen.

  • Event planning: reserve equipment, issue & or set up tables & chairs.

  • Training: Complete professional training as directed

    Hours:

    Monday - Friday, day shift. Weekends and Overtime as needed.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  • Two years of full-time work experience in semi-skilled grounds keeping, maintenance, or equipment operation.

  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes twelve months of full-time work as a Maintenance Worker 1.

Additional Qualification Requirements

  • NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver's License and/or commercial applicators 30T certification.

  • Designated positions in this class require possession of a valid Commercial Learner's Permit upon hire. Within a timeframe determined by the appointing authority, a valid Commercial Driver's License with the required endorsements and applicable restrictions must be obtained and subsequently maintained to continue employment.

  • In conjunction with Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations (parts 40 and 382), positions in this job class require a pre-employment drug screen and will require ongoing participation in the employer's random drug and alcohol testing program and will be subject to the regulations regarding the Federal drug and alcohol testing program.
