The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for the role of Supplier Quality Engineer I at our Des Plains, IL location.

The Supplier Quality Engineer I is responsible for conducting quality-related activities with key Abbott Molecular suppliers and third-party manufacturers (TPMs) to deliver consistent, high-quality documents, services, products, and processes.

The Supplier Quality Engineer I (SQE) identifies and mitigates supplier risks, collaborates with suppliers for long-term performance, ensures compliant documentation, and makes strategic decisions. The role also develops processes and manages complex projects with stakeholders.

What You’ll Work On:

  • Manage supplier quality relationships and develop quality strategies.

  • Resolve complex problems with compliant, innovative, and practical solutions.

  • Collaborate with internal teams on supplier changes and improvements.

  • Ensure validation and qualification of supplier processes, methods, and equipment.

  • Conduct occasional on-site quality assessments.

  • Maintain cross-functional relationships with suppliers and internal teams.

  • Lead supplier quality projects and support supply chain initiatives.

  • Ensure appropriate non-conformance CAPA plans.

  • Evaluate and approve supplier-requested changes or improvements.

  • Drive improvement projects to enhance supplier performance.

  • Monitor and report supplier performance and quality trends.

  • Participate in supplier process FMEAs, risk assessments, and quality planning.

  • Assess potential new suppliers for technical and quality capabilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (+/- 16 years) in a technical-related field (science, engineering, and math)

  • 3 years of relevant supplier quality work within a regulated environment.

  • Expected to be competent in data analysis and interpretation and be required to utilize such data to make data-driven decisions when providing guidance, recommendations, and decisions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in a related field.

  • Experience in the medical device industry.

  • Understanding of ISO 13485 and/or ISO 9001 requirements.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing operations and Understands engineering principles theories, concepts, practices, and techniques.

The base pay for this position is $72,700.00 – $145,300.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
