Job Summary:

Perform as a beginning crew member in the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution lines and equipment. Assist the Foreman, Lead Lineman and other crew members in the work as required.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Must be capable of climbing and working on de-energized secondary poles while under direct supervision of Foreman, Lead Lineman or Lineman.

2. Loads and secures material on trucks.

3. Sets up work zone including road signs, road cones and flags traffic.

4. Assists in R-O-W clearing.

5. Operates forklift.

6. Digs anchor holes and drives ground rods.

7. Pulls wire from reel

8. Works safely and follows all safety rules.

9. Drives commercial motor vehicles while accompanied by a Lineman, Lead lineman or Foreman. Straight truck only – no trailers

10. Prohibited from climbing poles or structures normally energized at primary voltage

11. Prohibited from working from a bucket at any time

12. Prohibited from assisting in substation, line or URD switching

13. Prohibited from serving On-Call

14. Prohibited from working in energized pad-mounted transformers, cabinets, vaults, pedestals, switching cabinets and any and all other similar equipment

15. Prohibited from work on energized lines or equipment of any type or voltage

16. Prohibited from setting meters

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Must have a valid Class "A" Georgia Commercial Driver's License.

• Must be willing and have ability to climb poles.

• Must have ability to obtain certification in fork lift operation and traffic flagging and control.

• Must obtain hand tools required by the position.

• Must be able to meet Primary and Secondary on-call requirements. Must be willing to work after hours to assist in service restoration.

• Must be willing to serve regularly in the on-call rotation schedule for restoring service after hours.

• Must be able to wear and use all required safety devices and apparel.

• Applicants hired into this position have a weight restriction due to safety equipment limitations. Weight cannot exceed 285 lbs.

• Must satisfactorily pass GreyStone’s physical, including a hearing and vision test, drug screen and background check.

Physical Demands (if applicable):

Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Activity of the position includes:

A. Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.

B. Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount and kind of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.

C. Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.

D. Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.

E. Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

F. Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.

G. Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

H. Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.

I. Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances.

J. Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.

K. Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.

L. Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.

M. Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working primarily with fingers, rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.

N. Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

O. Feeling: Perceiving attributes or objects, such as size, shape, temperature, texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.

P. Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.

Q. Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds with no less than a 40 db loss § 500 Hz, 1,000 Hz and 2,000 Hz with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through verbal communication, and to make fine discriminations in sound, such as when making fine adjustments on machined parts.R. Repetitive Motions: Substantial movements (motion) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Physical Conditions of the position includes:

A. The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside.

B. The worker is subject to extreme cold: Temperatures below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour.

C. The worker is subject to extreme heat: Temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour.

D. The worker is subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.

E. The worker is subject to vibration: Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.

F. The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.

G. The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.

H. The worker is subject to oils: There is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
