About the Role
We are seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Manager to lead the St. George Tanaq Corporation organization in promoting a safe and compliant workplace. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing our health and safety programs while ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements. This hands-on role requires a proactive approach to identifying potential hazards and implementing effective solutions to maintain a safe working environment.
This a fully remote work role based in the continental U.S. that requires an estimated travel of 25% or more annually in the United States depending on project requirements.
Responsibilities
Implement and manage standardized Environmental Health and Safety programs for our Environmental group to build a proactive culture of safety, compliance, and performance.
Work across our divisions and staff to achieve safety-related outcomes addressing business, customer, and partner goals and expectations. This includes a diverse set of requirements supporting environmental services, flightline operations, facilities management and routine office activities.
Drive organizationally integrated safety culture to achieve business objectives. Manage safety-related goals and metrics that drive incident reductions.
Partner with management to ensure safety measurements impact and reflect the safety culture
Design, arrange, and perform safety, health and environmental audits (e.g., site audits), and develop recommendations for improvements.
Conducts risk assessments and develops recommendations for improvements to work processes and safety programs to mitigate risks; implements such improvements.
Recommend, implement, and monitor safety solutions, and conduct proactive assessments for all functions.
Develops, delivers, and schedules health and safety training and all other training required to comply with OSHA and the USACE EM 385-1-1. May be delivered in self-study and classroom style online format.
Work with Human Resources to provide training for new employees who will be working in areas with specific safety concerns.
Maintain up-to-date safety training materials and training records companywide. Communicate accordingly on renewals and recertifications. Deliver mandatory annual training (including OSHA training requirements).
Manage health, safety, and environmental records and documentation in compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations, including but not limited to DOT, FMCSA, EPA, and OSHA.
Ensures regulatory compliance including but not limited to DoD, EPA, and OSHA, including preparing safety documents for projects and regulatory agencies.
Advise and coach team members on Safety procedures, priorities, and standards.
Lead employee injury investigations, automobile losses, and Worker’s Compensation claims from outside sources. Manages the claim process and works to strategically reduce future claim exposure through proactive measures.
Requirements
Required Experience and Skills
Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, including at least 1 year in an EHS leadership role.
Minimum of 3 years of experience providing safety training to employees.
A thorough understanding of relevant local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, USACE) is essential. Must have experience interpreting, understanding, and complying with environmental, health and safety regulations.
Strong commitment to site safety and adherence to safety plans.
Prior experience working on environmental restoration projects preferred.
Prior experience working for federal government clients preferred.
Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong communication skills are essential for interacting with employees at all levels, as well as with clients and external stakeholders.
The ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs for employees.
Organizational skills and ability to plan and manage multiple tasks.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Must be flexible for on-call emergency response activities as needed
Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
Must be able to obtain clearance to access military bases and other federal government installations to perform job duties.
Education and Training
Bachelor’s degree in environmental safety, occupational safety, environmental/chemical engineering, environmental studies, or related field required plus 6+ years of relevant experience. (Alternatively, an MS degree in a related discipline plus 4 years relevant experience. In lieu of a degree, the candidate must possess ten years of directly relevant experience at a minimum.)
Certified Safety Professional certification required.
Current HAZWOPER certification required.
OSHA 30 Construction or General industry certification required.
Physical Requirements
Must be able and willing to travel to visit job sites, attend client meetings, and/or attend professional or technical conferences, and the ability to travel, typically 25% or more annually, in the United States, which may include AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, MD, MO, MS, NM, OK, VA, WA.
Physically able, with or without accommodation, to work in outdoor environments with uneven terrain and variable outdoor conditions including heat, cold, dust, noise, chemicals, moisture, dryness, and vibration.
This position requires the ability to perform physical activities associated with field work, including walking long distances, climbing ladders, and carrying equipment. Bending, kneeling, stooping, and reaching are essential functions of the job.
Position requires frequent (more than 50% of workday) performance of repetitive bending & stooping, standing/walking, power gripping/squeezing (hand tools, levers, etc.), operation of vehicles, and lifting less than 25-50 pounds. Often (25-50% of workday) performing work with arms above shoulder level, and keyboard/mouse operations. Occasionally (10-25% of workday) performing repetitive fine hand movements and lifting 50-75 pounds. Rarely (less than 10% of workday), climbing stairs, using portable ladders, working in an environment of heavy, moving, dangerous equipment, and working in confined spaces.
Position will require wearing associated personal protective equipment, including, but not limited to safety glasses/goggles, gloves, safety shoes/boots, hard hats/safety helmets, hearing protection, and respirator.
Good near and far vision (corrected to 20/40) is necessary to accurately measure instruments, record data in field logs, and identify potential hazards in the field.
Must be able to work in a hybrid remote work arrangement with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and while working on a computer.
