St James Gate, Dublin

Fixed Term Contract until February 2026

Closing date: 29th October 2024

This role covers a 37.5-hour week Mon- Fri on day shifts, with the expectation to cover additional shifts when needed, and includes a 33% shift allowance.

About the Role

We are seeking a Brewing Shift Manager to join our dedicated team at St. James’s Gate Brewery. This role offers a unique opportunity to drive excellence in production, quality, customer service, and continuous improvement.

As a Brewing Shift Manager, you will guide production teams to deliver extraordinary quality products while maintaining high standards of customer service and operational efficiency. You’ll play a pivotal role in the recruitment, training, and development of team members, ensuring they have the skills and support needed to excel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead & manage resources within the production team, fostering a positive, collaborative environment.

  • Build strong relationships with team members, encouraging a culture of teamwork and mutual success.

  • Take ownership of team performance, setting ambitious goals and guiding the team to achieve them.

  • Proactively identify opportunities for improvement and drive initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.

  • Make decisive, action-oriented decisions to support production goals, while demonstrating flexibility in work practices.

  • Recognise and celebrate team successes, promoting a positive and motivating atmosphere.

  • Lead the production area to ensure seamless operations across brewing, packaging, hygiene, quality assurance, and asset care.

  • Apply advanced manufacturing excellence tools to drive site performance.

  • Maintain a strong focus on safety, health, environment, and hygiene, conducting risk assessments and promoting safe work practices.

  • Develop resource plans to meet production needs and oversee local scheduling.

  • Own key performance indicators (KPIs) and ensure the team meets or exceeds targets.

About You:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Strong understanding of Brewing and Packaging processes.

  • Knowledge of management systems, quality, safety, and environmental standards.

  • Familiarity with engineering, maintenance, and commercial aspects of production and supply chain management.

  • Proven ability to lead high-performance teams and achieve objectives.

  • Ability to coach effectively with strong interpersonal skills.

  • Proactive leader with a positive attitude, focused on driving results.

  • Committed to continuous improvement, always seeking ways to enhance team and process performance.

About the site

St. James's Gate Brewery in Dublin is Diageo's largest manufacturing facility in Ireland, and the largest stout brewery in the world, producing over three million pints of Guinness every day, supplying a growing Irish, UK and US market, and exporting to 90 global markets. Our main beer brands are Guinness, Rockshore, Hop House 13, Smithwick's and Harp. We also brew Carlsberg and Tuborg under licence for the Irish market, as well as a range of newer products, most recently Guinness 0.0 The brewery is highly utilised placing a premium on plant and process reliability.

In late 2014 Diageo completed a €169 million investment creating a world class brewing centre of excellence at St. James's Gate, which has increased the competitiveness of beer exports through our end-to-end global supply chain network. Given continued growing demand for our beers, Diageo committed a further €100 million to the Brewery last year, enabling our team to deliver increased volume, new innovations and replacing our Kegging facility.
