The State Highway Administration (SHA) is seeking to fill an executive service position for an Assistant District Engineer, Traffic (Administrator VII). The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill current and future vacancies in this classification throughout SHA. This position is open to anyone who meets the preferred qualifications below. Nature of Work: This position will manage a Traffic Engineering Program. The Assistant District Engineer for Traffic (ADE-T) will also serve as the District Engineer in their absence and will direct all traffic operations within the assigned district. The ADE-T is primarily responsible for directing a staff of professional, technical, supervisory skilled and clerical personnel engaged in traffic studies and traffic operations.

QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred Qualifications: Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. Experience: Six (6) years of experience in administrative or professional work. Six (6) years of professional level highway traffic engineering experience. Three (3) years of the required experience must have been in a supervisory capacity or exercising responsibility for program development. Notes: 1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience. 2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience. 3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a masters degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience. 4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher- ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
LICENSES and CERTIFICATIONS: Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the state of Maryland with less than four (4) points.
