Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma Water Infrastructural Planner in Durant, Oklahoma

Job Purpose or Objective(s): You will focus on drinking water infrastructure and related water resource aspects including water quality data analysis, water and wastewater treatment processes, techniques, and methodologies, water distribution engineering and design, and funding opportunities to provide cleaner, safer, and cheaper drinking water. The Infrastructural Planner will work with all water and wastewater treatment facilities in the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma to develop an intricate understanding of all demand, infrastructure, and inefficiencies that need to be addressed by technical experience, funding opportunity identification/guidance, and infrastructural planning and management. You will report to the Water Resource Manager.

Primary Tasks:

  1. You will maintain professional working relationships with water and wastewater treatment facilities, staff, and upper management; conduct assessments of those facilities to identify bottlenecks, design flaws, required/needed upgrades, inefficiencies, and potential improvements; identify programs, funding opportunities, and other resources to increase the safety of the facilities' products, provide upgrades, resiliency, redundancy, and efficiencies.

  2. Develop an assessment-reporting document to evaluate facilities equally and fairly to identify priority issues, environmental and human harm, and requests for assistance.

  3. Work cooperatively with internal tribal departments to coordinate efforts, and state and federal agencies for potential funding mechanisms.

  4. Gather drinking water and wastewater discharge water quality data for use as potential indicator of facility issues, inefficiencies, and internal department analysis.

  5. You will establish contact at each water and wastewater treatment facility and field infrastructural questions, and funding requests.

  6. Attend/participate in networking and conference opportunities to increase knowledge of infrastructural issues and to identify potential funding.

  7. Provide insight on potential water and wastewater issues, upgrades, technical methodologies, and technological advancements in the industry.

  8. Develop reports, technical comments, and interpret engineering reports for infrastructure related projects for communities and the Choctaw Nation.

  9. Perform other tasks as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in science or engineering, and five (5) years of experience developing assessment metrics, conducting inspections, interpreting basic engineering reports, public speaking experience, technical writing, water resource infrastructure; develop assessment metrics, conduct inspections, and interpret engineering reports, OR nine (9) years of directly related experience in lieu of education.

  • Basic Water Treatment Operator Certification (or ability to acquire one once hired)

  • Have current knowledge of technical advancements in water and wastewater treatment processes, methodologies, and engineering designs.

  • Microsoft Office Suite experience

  • Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes, engineering protocols, scientific/engineering instrumentation, water chemistry analysis, and process analysis.
