Duke University Copywriter in Durham, North Carolina

Occupational Summary

Temporary Writer/Copywriter for Duke Community Affairs, projected to last 3-4 months. Coordinate, participate and assist in developing projects for disseminating news about Duke University and for publicizing the University, its programs, activities, faculty, students and staff.

Work Performed

Develop material, media advisories and news tips for distribution to the news media to publicize the University, its programs, activities, faculty, students and staff. These may include written materials such as news releases and features and/or multimedia materials such as videos or online features, as directed.

Develop and maintain professional contacts and affiliations with the news media, particularly at the national level, to facilitate and promote the dissemination of news and publicity about the University.

Develop and maintain working relationships with University faculty, deans and administrators within an assigned area. Monitor and analyze programs and activities at Duke University and assist in developing appropriate strategies for publicizing them to the news media.

Assist in planning and coordinating a proactive information services program for Duke Community Affairs.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires the ability to perform creative writing and related activities such as conducting interviews and research, and copy editing normally acquired through attainment of a bachelor's degree in Political Science, Social Science, Economics, Humanities. Fine Arts background.

Experience

Work requires one year of directly related writing experience.
