Amentum Safety Manager in Durham, North Carolina

  • Overseeing all contractor on-site activities for health, safety and environmental compliance for activities required for fabrication, maintenance and analytical support of bench and pilot scale projects by evaluating practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law.

  • Managing an employee occupational safety, health, and environmental management program to meet requirements for on-site work performed at federal facilities, and associated fieldwork..

  • Implementing personnel training, including development of training classes/materials and class schedules that support safety/environmental compliance with regulatory programs, operating permits and licenses.

  • Preparing and reviewing job hazard analyses for employees to determine potential or actual workplace exposures to chemical, radiological or biological agents, and/or physical stressors.

  • Implementing an occupational medical surveillance programs for monitoring an activity or exposure currently regulated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

  • Conducting respiratory fit testing following regulatory requirements and standard procedures.

  • Accurately project cost and schedules.

  • Preparing and enforcing company and local site policies to establish a culture of health and safety.

  • Mentoring of Junior Safety personnel.

  • Administration of the local Safety Reporting System to include collection of submittals, entry of submittals into the appropriate tracking system and employee recognition for participating in the program.

  • Administration of the company Daily/Weekly Safety Message/Themes.

  • Minimum - Bachelor of Science degree and 16+ years of safety program experience, Masters Degree + 14 years’ experience or PhD with 10 years’ experience. Preferably a master’s degree in health, safety, industrial hygiene or industrial engineering. Industrial hygiene certification highly preferable.

  • Ability to plan, conduct, and supervise projects of major significance, necessitating advanced knowledge and the ability to originate and apply new and unique methods and procedures.

  • Ability to provide technical advice to other research professionals, technicians, and administrative personnel.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential. Ability to effectively document work performed, safety observations, hazard analyses, safety plans, procedures, and training materials is essential. Must be able to give safety briefings and trainings to large and small groups.

  • Must be able to effectively gather, analyze, and report on safety metrics.

  • Ability to direct project and safety teams.

  • Experience with chemical, biological, and radioactive safety programs.

  • Experience managing an employee occupational safety, health, and environmental management program to meet requirements for on-site work performed at federal facilities, and when performing fieldwork.

  • Experience implementing personnel training, environmental compliance with regulatory programs, operating permits and licenses.

  • Experience preparing job hazard analyses for employees to determine potential or actual workplace exposures to chemical, radiological or biological agents, and/or physical stressors.

  • Experience implementing an occupational medical surveillance programs for monitoring an activity or exposure currently regulated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

  • Experience with air sampling, modeling, regulatory requirements; electrical safety; HAZWOPER programs; storm water permits;

  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft WORD, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Experience with human studies research and institutional review boards is a plus.
