ManpowerGroup Scientific Knowledge Engineer in Durham, North Carolina

Our client, in the biopharma industry is seeking a Scientific Knowledge Engineer to join their team. This role is responsible for maximizing the value of our client's data assets over a lifetime to bring purpose to data by acting as translators of highly technical information from domain experts into an appropriate data model - complete with significant ontology and vocabulary -- that can be utilized to effectively structure and index the data.

Job Title: Scientific Knowledge Engineer

Pay Range: $75-$85/hr

Duration: 12 months (potential to extend/convert)

What’s the Job?

  • Define schemas, data models, and vocabularies to structure and index scientific data, ensuring quality control and mapping for data engineering processes.

  • Collaborate with product managers and engineers to translate scientific business needs into actionable data models and requirements for large-scale biological data integration.

  • Align data standards with industry and academic ontologies, supporting the creation of interoperable, analytics-ready data products.

  • Ensure data ingestion meets platform engineering standards by standardizing and structuring metadata for efficient, automated processing at scale.

  • Provide subject matter expertise to transform complex scientific information into actionable data insights for R&D decision-making.

What’s Needed?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biomedical Science, Engineering, Molecular Biology, or Computer Science with 5-8 years of relevant experience .

  • Proficiency in relational database querying (e.g., SQL) and data modeling using industry-standard data management/metadata platforms (e.g., Collibra, Informatica).

  • Experience with data quality, analysis, and profiling tools (e.g., SAS, Ataccama, OpenRefine) and programming languages like Python for scripting and building data models.

  • Familiarity with ontology , knowledge graphs , and open-source tools (e.g., Protégé, SPARQL, RDF, Centree ).

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and contribute to data standards or industry committees.
