About the Role:
We are currently seeking an Associate of Government Affairs to support legislative and stakeholder engagement efforts at the state and local levels based in our East Brunswick, NJ Office. This role will primarily focus on advancing LS Power’s business priorities and advocacy strategies while gaining exposure to key policies shaping the electric power industry. The ideal candidate is a motivated individual with strong communication skills and an ability to analyze complex industry, market, and public policies.
As part of LS Power’s government affairs team, you will contribute to legislative initiatives that impact power generation technologies, including natural gas, renewables, and electric transmission, at both the project and corporate levels. This role requires close collaboration with internal teams and external government affairs consultants across multiple states to drive legislative and stakeholder engagement strategies.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. You will play a key role in monitoring, analyzing, and effectively communicating legislative and policy developments while engaging with government officials, trade organizations, and stakeholders to advance LS Power’s objectives.
Responsibilities
What you will do:
Understand LS Power’s business priorities, the markets in which we operate and the energy policies of the states in which we operate assets.
Support the development of legislative and regulatory strategies and collateral materials for public use
Clearly communicate legislative and regulatory proposals to senior and executive leadership
Work closely with asset management and development teams to advance a legislative and policy agenda.
Conduct legislative and other research to support the development of outcome-oriented, state specific and multi-state strategies to advance company objectives
Represent and protect the company’s interests by working with governmental entities and associated trade groups
Represent the company at hearings and meetings of policy makers.
Draft filings, testimony, fact sheets, talking points and other informational and advocacy pieces.
Analyze proposed legislative actions and, working with internal stakeholders, determine the potential impact on the company and develop appropriate responses to such actions
Manage relationships with key policymakers; travel to and meet with legislators and their staff on behalf of LS Power.
Attend state legislative meetings.
Work with lobbyists, PR firms, and other Consultants.
Some travel will be required on an as needed and proactive basis throughout the US.
Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications

Hold a Bachelor’s degree in public affairs, government, public relations, communication, business, or a related field preferred.
Have some experience in energy, power industry, government affairs, or communications.
Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
Have excellent organizational, management, and interpersonal skills.
Are able to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Have the willingness to travel as needed within the U.S.
