The Salvation Army Operations Coordinator in East Cleveland, Ohio

Overview

The Operations Coordinator will serve in a critical support role to the Corps Officers and a major leadership role within the East Cleveland Corps. They will be intimately and integrally involved in the daily operations of the Corps and the carrying out of the Mission of The Salvation Army.

The Operations Coordinator will support the Corps Officers with the administrative & fiscal areas of the East Cleveland Corps. They will have direct oversight of the Community Center & Facilities Departments, as well as all Special Events. They will have significant involvement in External Relations and Media.

They will be heavily involved in generating revenue for the ongoing execution of the Mission of The Salvation Army locally. The ideal candidate should be able to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality and professionalism, whilst remaining teachable and engaged in ongoing professional development.

Responsibilities

Administration (including fundraising & finance)

  • Serve as the person-in-charge, in the absence of the Corps Officers

  • Assist with the development, coordination and evaluation of corps operations, including all policies and procedures.

  • Support the Corps Officer by assisting with Human Resources functions

  • Explore potential funding sources in cooperation with the Area Services. Assist in the preparation and review of funding requests, preparing reports as directed by the Corps Officers for Area Services, DHQ and external partners

  • Give direct supervision of Community Center Coordinator (or equivalent) and by extension, their department

  • Serve as point of contact for those desiring to complete Community Service for school or court-appointed

    Office Management

  • Manage main office of the Corps and all pertinent equipment: Copier, fax, etc.

  • Centralize the filing of official administrative documents.

  • Prepare and type correspondence, etc., for Corps Officers, and other staff as assigned by Corps Officers. This will include corps bulletins, newsletter, reports, etc.

  • Answer and direct phone calls to appropriate areas

  • Ensure general files up-to-date and in order, including Corps inventories.

  • Keep calendar up-to-date to correspond with corps officers, corps activities, Community Center activities and Social Service activities.

  • Assist with income & expense reporting, as directed

    Special Events

  • Provide oversight and coordination of all special events including Back To School, Thanksgiving & Christmas Community Meals, Summer Events, etc.

  • Engage other Department Heads, as necessary, to support events and promote Corps’ services

  • Support Corps Officers & Social Services Coordinator with Christmas Toy Campaign, as requested

Facilities

  • Responsible for marketing of facility and generating revenue via facility rentals, to meet quarterly targets

  • Review and process all facility rental requests and provide endorsement for space use, before forwarding to Corps Officers

  • Responsible to ensure events are adequately staffed and resourced with equipment

  • Give direct supervision of Facilities Coordinator (or equivalent) and by extension, their department

  • Ensure required licenses are kept current

  • Maintain registrations & repair records for all vehicles assigned to East Cleveland

    OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Involvement in the total Corps program with willingness to help in all areas as needed, including dining room, outdoor/indoor activities, children with problems, client engagement, etc.

  • Assist with all activities relative to the Red Kettle effort, under the direction of the Corps Officers, including recruiting, training and instructing of potential employees

  • Serve as a member of the Operations Team, during disaster emergencies

  • Perform related duties, as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business/Organizational ManagementorHigh School Diploma with at least 5 years experience in the operations of a Salvation Army Corps

  • Human Resource and organizational skills are preferred

  • Highly developed interpersonal leadership skills.

  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications and working knowledge of office procedures/equipment.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills; Should possess those qualities of heart, mind, and character that apply to all those working intimately with people.

  • Must possess at least 3 years of experience in a supervisory capacity and at least 5 years of experience with the Red Kettle Campaign

  • Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing. Ability to drive 12 passenger van and pass required Salvation Army driving test.
