Position Summary
Outstanding candidates are sought in areas of modern statistical theory and methods that align with high-impact, emerging societal challenges. Candidates shall demonstrate strong research potential or have a nationally recognized record of research excellence. Areas of interest include mathematical statistics and/or theory-driven methodology, with a preference for work interfacing with scientific applications. Areas of application may include but are not limited to: agricultural, environmental and climate sciences, genetic/genomic data analysis, image analysis, machine learning and deep learning, artificial intelligence, precision medicine and health outcomes, and physics and astronomy. We encourage applications from exceptional candidates in these research areas to apply, particularly for applicants who have or demonstrate the potential to establish an externally funded research program that contributes to the advancement of statistical knowledge and produces publications in top-tier journals.

Doctorate -Statistics or closely related field
Minimum Requirements
A doctorate in Statistics or a closely related field is required, in addition to demonstrating the promise and/or record of a strong and compelling research program. Candidates must also provide evidence or show potential for excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. For candidates seeking the rank of associate or full professor, a robust record of external funding and successful graduate training is expected.
Required Application Materials

(1) a 1-page cover letter describing the candidate's qualifications within the context of this position and current efforts at MSU's Statistics and Probability Department.
(2) a CV that includes education background, a list of publications, contributed and invited talks, teaching and mentoring experiences/roles, contributions to the academic community, and any relevant scholarly effort.
(3) a 2--6 page research statement highlighting past research accomplishments and future plans that frame the applicant's ability to conduct independent research. This statement should include experience or plans to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion within the statistics research community.
(4) a 1-2 page teaching statement describing the applicant's experience in instruction and research mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students, including experiences or plans to create inclusive and equitable learning environments.
(5) At least 3 letters of reference. At least one letter should address the applicant's instructional experience.
