Position Summary
The Department of Psychiatry seeks an individual to serve as a lead case administrator on Prevent 2 Protect: the Adolescent Targeted Violence Prevention Project (ATVPP) a 5-year, $15M project sponsored by the Michigan Department of Education. The Lead Case Manager will work in the Prevent 2 Protect Office in the MSU Department of Psychiatry, East Lansing, MI. The Lead Case Manager will be responsible for overseeing and providing guidance for five regional case administrators working in five regions of the state. This role will interact with the Prevent 2 Protect Director, Project Manager, Law Enforcement Liaison, Communication Coordinator, regional case administrator, and mentors daily to ensure coordination of care, and implementation of services for identified high-risk, high-need adolescents.
The initial staff appointment period will be through September 30, 2027, with possibility of extension based on the successful achievement of work goals and the availability of grant funds.
Task breakdown
20% Performs professional level leadership duties guiding five regional case managers and mentors coordinating the referral, intake and assessment processes for at-risk adolescents and their caregivers (as appropriate). Gathers information, triage referrals and participant questions and relays sensitive information to the hub and regional teams
20% Coordinates, records and supports regional case administrative activities to provide for the optimal delivery of services for identified at-risk adolescents in preparation for community integration, and living and educational achievement and skills
20% Provides professional and technical assistance and training to regional teams and entities, resolving systems navigation issues and making specific suggestions for action under the supervision of the director
10% Attends and facilitates meetings as assigned with regional case managers and mentors to provide support, gather and disseminate information and obtain progress reports for each referral, eligible and active case
10% Provide regular reports to project leadership on the number of at-risk adolescents and progress toward identifying/securing services for them and their families
10% Assists project leadership in preparing reports for program sponsors and other key stakeholders
5% Ensures integrity and effectiveness of such services and compliance with federal and state rules and regulations
5% Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completion of a four-year college degree program in business, psychology, social work, or criminal justice ; three to five years of relevant working experience in policy enforcement, case management, report writing, and working with partnering agencies or departments; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Current valid license for the state of Michigan is preferred; demonstrated ability to maintain, and enhance strong relationships with teachers, guidance counselors, mental health providers and/or other community resource providers, adolescents, and their families
Superior leadership, organizational, interpersonal, coaching and communication skills to effectively work within a multi-disciplinary team setting; demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills; demonstrated experience working in or with K-12 schools; training in crisis intervention, mental health first aid, risk assessment, behavioral threat assessment and/or working within a behavioral assessment team; knowledge of basic personal computer technology and operations, the ability to use email, internet and teleconferencing.
