Position Summary
Prevention, Outreach and Education Department Prevention Education Manager
Focus: Athletic and FSL prevention programming
Michigan State University has developed a strong network of programs to address issues of relationship violence, stalking and sexual misconduct. The Prevention Education Manager is a critical piece of this network. This position has a focus on the in-person programming for men’s athletic teams (Spartans Against Violence), fraternity community (Greeks Take the Lead), and men’s engagement initiatives.
The Prevention Education Manager is an experienced professional with extended knowledge on sexual and relationship violence, general knowledge of Violence Against Women Act, Clery Act and Title IX. This position works within a programming team to create a university network of programs for all employees and students. This position will be responsible for the following duties:
Coordination and facilitation of education and prevention programming for men’s athletic teams
Coordinate and support the Greeks Take the Lead Program for fraternity students
Maintain compliance with NCAA, Office for Civil Rights resolution agreements and any additional compliance-related expectations
Remain up to date on research, policy and best practices relating to sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking
Work collaboratively with university and community partners
Represent POE in response to requests from other departments and community partners
Facilitate trainings, workshops and other presentations as needed
Evaluate current programming to inform learning outcomes
Assist in development and implementation of men’s engagement initiatives on campus
Assist and support training and engagement of POE Peer Educators
Other duties as assigned
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Educational Theory and Methodology and/or a specialization in the designated area of expertise; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in planning and overseeing seminars and conferences including public relations, organizing and disseminating training materials and information both written and web-based; budget and records maintenance and computer support; experience in supervision, database, spreadsheet, word processing, desktop publishing, knowledge of HTML programming and web site development and management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Preferred Masters in social work, student affairs, psychology, or related field; Experience in working with organizations to deliver services to survivors of sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, and stalking; Knowledge of relevant federal policies, including Title IX and Clery Act; Solid understanding of diversity, general social justice issues, and intersectionality; Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with discretion, sensitivity, and neutrality; Ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations; Strong oral and written communication skills; Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively; Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
