The Director, Regional Facilities & Maintenance - South leads the Network Facilities strategy for assigned Region, leading the teams and ensuring local needs are consistently met for plant operations, maintenance, and property management. The position is responsible for the development of the site facilities and maintenance teams within the region into a cohesive, professional, customer-oriented function that strives for continual improvement to enable an integrated, coordinated, and effective approach to the management of the physical assets in alignment with network objectives. This role reports to the VP, Network Facilities and partners with senior leadership throughout the region to ensure consistency, operational strength and flexibility. Ensures a safe physical environment within assigned region and provides regional leadership and oversight of the Facilities Maintenance/Engineering teams in accordance with Federal, State, and JCAHO standards and in accordance with Network policy and procedures.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Director, Regional Facilities & Maintenance - South at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Responsible for leading and maintaining network strategy within assigned region, leading the team, making key decisions, and aligning with operational needs. Work with senior leadership throughout the network to ensure operational strength and flexibility.

  • Develops relationships and builds trust with a diverse set of stakeholders, including staff, faculty, students, trustees, consultants, members of the community, and state and local officials.

  • Collaborates with senior leadership within assigned region in developing plans for delivering effective and efficient services relating to the operation and maintenance of the campus.

  • Plans, organizes, directs and evaluates the performance of the areas of direct responsibility and other departments as assigned.

  • Provides general leadership to Director, Facilities at assigned sites in continuing to evolve standards as a service-oriented, professional, and efficient facilities function, capable of addressing the diverse needs of each campus/site.

  • Develops plans for assigned region to carry out activities of services within JCAHO and State Department of Health standards.

  • Recommends policy and procedure changes in conjunction with short- and long-range plans, problems, systems, and goals including planning for new facilities, utilities management, etc...

  • Involved in the development and/or management of budget for assigned areas. Regularly monitors relevant key financial indicators and performance metrics, modifying business activities where needed in response to changing financial situations.

  • Ensures that the EOC meets all regulatory standards in alignment with Medical Center and network policies and procedures including, but not limited to: orientation, equipment and compliance, accident/incident reports, OSHA regulations, and annual safety/emergency preparedness training.

  • Ensures that sites within assigned region meet all JCAHO and NJ DOH regulatory compliance for Maintenance/Engineering/EOC as evidenced by no major citations.

  • In coordination with VP, Network Facilities & Maintenance, VP, Sustainability and Energy Mgmt team, lead efforts to steward HMH resources effectively and efficiently in support of the sustainability and energy commitments and in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing facility operations, renovations and facilities management.

  • Leads and directs Directors, Facilities at sites within assigned region. Provides feedback and training to staff and leadership regarding areas of expertise. Works with staff to resolve issues as they arise. Ensures the effective and efficient utilization of human resources.

  • Participates in union contract renewal negotiations.

  • Oversees and may participate in the development of RFPs, contracts, proposals for goods and services, and the management of service providers and vendors.

  • Delegates assignments to professional staff members and supervises their work as needed to ensure quality results.

  • Participate in local or network committees as needed.

  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or related field and/or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum of 8 or more years of experience in healthcare/facility maintenance or healthcare operations in a progressively responsible leadership role.

  • Proven ability to lead teams across multiple locations and manage multiple projects.

  • Working Knowledge of codes and policies, (TJC, FGI, and NFPA), for hospital and ambulatory care areas.

  • In depth knowledge of OSHA and JCAHO regulations.

  • Excellent technical, management, organizational, interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.

  • A track record of success establishing a vision for facilities-management services that advances mission, maximizes efficiency and return on investment, and demonstrates effective stewardship of assets.

  • Demonstrated success advising senior leadership and trustees on strategic investments in physical-plant assets and in the resources necessary to optimize them in a complex environment.

  • Demonstrated competency in assessing, analyzing and utilizing data for purpose of obtaining information necessary for effective decision making and performance improvement processes.

  • Prior experience with union contract negotiations.

  • Prior project management experience.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Master's degree.
