Job Description:
Summary: The Technical Lead (Systems and Wayside Technical Discipline Lead) ensures that the delivery of the Systems and Wayside design packages are managed appropriately through construction by acting as the interface between Design and Construction. The Technical Disciple Lead will organize and review Construction team inquiries and change proposals prior to those inquiries and change proposals flowing to the Engineers of Record for formal dispositioning. They also serve to track and report on workflow progression to closure and triaging urgent construction needs so ensure project targets are realized.
What You'll Be Doing:
Review Site Queries for completeness by providing technical ties to the Project Assignment requirements.
Monitor Site Query backlog for aging and hold regular construction team interface meetings to communicate to all team members the current state of EOR reviews while triaging special requests as required. Understand the activities of the various project teams to identify and manage risks, ensure project procedures are followed, and that good technical governance is maintained.
Review and process Construction Submittal workflows to the responsible Engineer of Record ensuring timely reviews to support the construction schedule.
Provide technical leadership and support to Construction teams that are constructing the Systems and Wayside design packages.
Assist by identifying technical issues and moving to solve them before they impact the construction schedule.
Support Project Leads in their management of technical interfaces, coordination or design within the discipline, and multidisciplinary technical interfaces across disciplines at a project level.
Interface between design and construction to manage and resolve issues from inception to closure and ensure that any deviations are addressed appropriately to maintain the project risk profile and technical compliance with project requirements.
Understand design review and approval requirements to participate in record drawing, assist with construction certification, and assembly of turn-over records as construction is progressed.
Participate in design team meetings, briefing sessions, and project reviews as required by project.
Lead risk management throughout the project ensuring that both technical and commercial risks are identified and mitigation strategies put in place and agreed to.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
Bachelor's Degree in engineering or construction-related field, or equivalent construction-related work experience, as well as 5+ years of experience in field construction is required
Minimum five years professional experience, with a focus on delivery of public infrastructure megaprojects
Demonstrable technical knowledge of engineering of systems and wayside equipment best practices
Technical knowledge and experience of Alberta regulations for design codes/ standards and statutory regulations
Well versed in standard construction information management protocols such as Requests for Information (RFIs), Vendor Shop Drawing Submissions and Designer Reviews, Design Change Management, Non-conformance identification and resolution processes, etc.
Experienced with reading technical specifications and complex drawing sets to extract and understand design intent.
Prior experience with operational concepts governing light rail work (Grounding & Bonding verification, Stray Current Control & Mitigation, Systems connectivity and cabling, Conduit Fill Ratios & Labelling, Train/Traffic Signal Controller for Train Routing and Priority, Wayside Equipment and associated enclosures, Wayfinding Signage, Testing and Commissioning, etc.
