U.S. Coast Guard Sheet Metal Mechanic (Aircraft) Leader in Elizabeth City, North Carolina

Summary This vacancy is for a WL-3806-10, Sheet Metal Mechanic (Aircraft) Leader, located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), United States Coast Guard (USCG), Aviation Logistics Center (ALC), Medium Range Recovery (MRR) Product Line, Programmed Depot Maintenance (PDM) Branch, in Elizabeth City, NC. Responsibilities You will serve as a Sheetmetal Mechanic (Aircraft) Leader and be responsible for providing technical leadership and/or training and personally perform journey level work in the trade. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Instructing, making work assignments, establishing the workflow, setting the pace for work completion, distributing and balancing the workload. Assuring written instructions and reference materials are available and followed, and safety regulations are complied with. Training via on-the-job tasks demonstrations or a classroom setting to update, extend, or improve the skills of employees, or to cross-train employees of one trade to a different skill level in another trade. Developing patterns and templates lays out, forms, joints, assembles, and installs various aircraft metal structures, items and systems. Examining aircraft hulls and metal structures to assure proper repairs and maintenance; setting up and realigning hulls; determining bend ratios; ream complex holes. Occasional Temporary Additional Duty (TAD) is required. Subject to overtime or recall. Rotating shift work may be required. May be required to fly on Coast Guard aircraft. Time in Grade requirement must be met by the closing date of the vacancy. Qualifications Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: Ability to lead (SCREENOUT) Knowledge of equipment, structure, materials, etc. (includes construction, repair, and forging) Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Layout and pattern development (includes geometric projection and triangulation) Ability to use hand tools, power tools, etc., for metal work Dexterity (assembly, disassembly, reassembly, etc.) The applicant must possess journey level experience performing aircraft sheet metal work. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. Education This position does not have a positive education requirement.
